Ecolink Incursion

The Level 3–6 students recently celebrated Caring for our Common Home month, inspired by Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’, through an engaging incursion delivered by the team at Ecolink. Over two hours, students were immersed in the world of marine science and empowered to take action through simple steps such as saying, “No thank you!” to single-use plastics.

They became “experts” as they filtered sand samples, extracted microplastics, and used microscopes to identify them. Using their knowledge of food chains, students then played Marine Ecosystem Jenga—a game where positive actions help build the tower, while threats to the ecosystem cause it to collapse. This powerful activity highlighted the fragility of real ecosystems and the impact of human choices.

The students walked away from the incursion excited and inspired, knowing their actions can make a difference in caring for our environment.
