Principal's Report

 Dear Parents,

As the term ends, the sun is shining, and we all look forward to the Grand Final and a bit of break.

This term has been a short 9-week term which we have packed plenty in to (Sorry for all the dress up days). The highlights for me have been the dance concert nights, inter-school speaking competition, 3/4 travel expo and footy day! But it has been a term packed with learning opportunities for our beautiful children

FATHER’S DAY

Rachael Cantwell came up with the idea of having a Prep Vs Prep Dads father’s day basketball match after school. The dads were invited for afternoon tea first, before they took on the might of the Preps! Mr Gibbons umpired the match and lots of fun was had!

Big thank you to Rachael and Alison Francis who did all the work to set up a brilliant afternoon.

STAFFING

Next term Flick will be Acting Principal at Gladysdale Primary School, she will however still be with us on a Tuesday, Rachel (Ward) Mainwaring and Jess Howe will cover Flick on the days she is not at WYPS. I congratulate Flick for taking on the role as Principal.

Sadly, we will be losing Meagan Mallison who works in 3/4C & 3/4E. But we wish her well as she goes on maternity leave, Meagan will be sadly missed by the children and the staff. As always, we will keep you updated when another Woori staff baby joins the team.

She will be replaced by two teachers coming back from maternity leave. The wonderful Ash Shanks will work in 3/4C on Monday & Tuesday next term. And the just as wonderful Sara-Jane Vaughan will work in 3/4E on a Wednesday. So a big welcome back for Ash and Sara-Jane.

GRADE 5/6 INTERSCHOOL FOOTBALL QUAD TORNAMENT!

Last week our 5/6 boys team played a lightening premiership format against Badger Creek P.S., Yarra Junction P.S. and Healesville P.S. The boys won all their preliminary matches and then played off in the Grand Final against Badger Creek P.S. The boys were brilliant all day taking out the final and bringing home the trophy.

FOOTY DAY 2025

Footy day at our school is always full of fun and activity. The students paraded in their club colours, they enjoyed a whole range of footy activities, beautifully structured and run by our 5/6 students, special mention to Jobe Ormsby for his wonderful leadership and organisation. The students played the teachers in the afternoon; after a promising student start, the teacher’s won again which is 10 years in a row. The teachers do seem to have a height advantage though!

JESS PLAYS HER 200th NETBALL GAME

Some of our teachers are legends in local sport. Jess Wallace recently represented Victoria (not for the first time) in lawn bowls and is a local legend at the Lilydale Bowls Club. Jess Banfield completed a marathon a week ago and broke a PB. Jess Howe has played high level netball and played her 200th netball game a couple of weeks ago! Jess plays in a grand final this weekend with Tess Fraser one of our Prep teachers. Well done to all our sporty staff but particularly Jess for a huge achievement!

Congratulations Jess

NOODLE CUPS

Just a reminder that teachers cannot fill noodle cups for student lunches. Noodle cups require very hot water. This is a health and safety issue due to the potential for burns to occur.

EXCELLENCE AWARD WINNERS

The excellence award goes to the student the teacher has judged as the best student for the term. Taking into account, the school’s values, academic growth, persistence and manners.

Congratulations to this term’s excellence award winners. Special mention to Dixi who becomes only the third child to receive a bronze badge in Excellence Award history. No student has ever received 9.

Please remember Friday is an early finish. Students will be dismissed at 2:30pm.

I hope all our families have a wonderful Spring break. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful grand final day even though Carlton are not in it. But don’t worry next year is the year of the Old Dark Navy Blues, it has to be considering they last won in 1995. A wonderful fact I came across the other day is that Essendon is the only club in the 18 team era without a finals victory. At least I can say Carlton has ticked that one off!

Don’t forget that spring time is the perfect time to read! Enjoy the wonderful world of a book, I certainly will be.

My current read: This is a re-read, I read it a long time ago, but I loved it then and I’m enjoying it again now! Historical fiction is my favourite especially if it is about Australia.

See you in a couple of weeks.
