Performing Arts

What a productive term we’ve had in Performing Arts. So many students are developing their skills and enjoying performing to an audience. Well done to those students in the Choir, Guitarists, Woodwind players who play each week at assembly.
Prep
Students have been listening to different dynamics:
- Piano is the word for soft or quiet
- Forte means loud!
They enjoyed listening to a clip, trying to guess if it is an animal making a soft or loud sound.
Students also learnt about the word, ‘Timbre’ which is pronounced ‘Tambre.’
Here are some examples of a listening activity:
Year 4
The Year 4 students have listened to the works of Austrian composer, ‘Surprise Symphony’ by Joseph Haydn. This symphony begins quietly with a melody which is similar to, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' gradually becoming softer then suddenly explodes into a 'fortissimo' surprise!
Students focused on some music features in this piece:
It was great to see students playing this piece of music on keyboards and tuned percussion:
Year 5
Students participated in the ‘Cha Cha Slide Dance’ and looked at how to create a simple set of movements and how to instruct others to follow. Great job everyone and I enjoyed seeing super co-operation in groups.
Year 6
It’s so great seeing the Year 6 students following instructions to the Jerusalema challenge which is a dance in the Zulu language which became popular across the globe in 2020. Stay tuned for pictures or videos of students in small groups.
