Visual Arts - Term 3

Drawing Club

In Drawing Club, students took part in an R U OK? Day activity called “Who Can I Talk To?” to help them build their support networks. Using a printable hand template, they wrote down five people they could talk to—one on each finger—reminding them that they are never alone. On Thursday, 11 September 2025, the focus was on connecting with those around us and supporting anyone facing life’s challenges. The 2025 theme, “Ask R U OK? Any Day,” reminded students that checking in with friends, family, and peers isn’t just for one day—it’s something we can do any day. This activity encouraged open conversations about well-being and gave students a simple visual reminder of the support available to them, while also highlighting the importance of listening with empathy and without judgment.

PAW & PST

In Prep, students learned about Colour so they could use the primary colours with watercolours to create their lollipops. They painted their lollipops using the primary colours and then painted their backgrounds using the secondary colours, such as orange, green, or purple. Students also learned how to use watercolour paints effectively.

1GC & 1BW

In Year 1, students learned about Value, Variety, and Crayon Techniques through their doughnut box artworks. They discovered how to use varying pressure with crayons to create values of colour, ranging from light to dark. They also explored the concept of variety by using different colours and techniques to make each doughnut box unique. Along the way, students experimented with a range of crayon techniques to add visual interest and creativity to their designs.

The final doughnut boxes were colourful, textured, and full of individuality.

2MC & 2AP

In Year 2, students created their own Hundertwasser-inspired city designs. They explored Hundertwasser’s love of organic lines by practicing spirals and concentric circles, drawing their lines so close together they often went right off the page. Starting from a central dot, students used black oil pastels to create large, growing spirals and then traced an additional line closely around their first spiral. At the base of their "lollipop" spirals, they designed imaginative cities and winding roads.

To finish their artworks, students added detailed white pastel lines in the open spaces around their spirals before painting with watercolours. Using only three colours, they carefully filled the spirals, cities, and roads with vibrant sections of paint. The finished artworks were bold, colourful cityscapes full of line, pattern, and imagination.

3EN & 3MM

In Year Three, students learned about colour and experimented with watercolours to create expressive self-portrait paintings. They painted their portraits using smooth, flowing strokes and outlined their features with care. To enhance their work, students selected watercolours that contrasted with their outlines, resulting in vibrant and eye-catching artworks.

4EK & 4JR: Visual Arts

In Year Four, students created a colourful landscape background to make their Mona Lisa artworks stand out using chalk pastels. They added details to their landscapes by drawing fluffy clouds and bright field lines. Tiny flowers were crafted and added using collage papers. Finally, the students glued their Mona Lisa pieces to their vibrant backgrounds.

6JT, 6RM & 6ZG:

In Year Six, students created personalised eye drawings inspired by the Surrealist artist René Magritte. They added colour and detail using a range of mediums, including coloured pencils and chalk pastels. Through blending and feathering techniques, they successfully depicted features such as eyebrows, eyelashes, and realistic skin tones, as well as imaginative backgrounds. Their success criteria focused on outlining carefully, considering the element of space, and achieving a natural skin-like effect around the eye. Each student’s work reflected a unique sense of creativity and artistic expression.

Happy Creating,
