STEM

Prep - This term, students will be focusing on physical sciences and learning about how different things move. In lesson eight, students focused on the movement of bouncing. They spent time outside bouncing different balls on different surfaces to see if the balls bounced the same or not. We discussed that there are many different things that can affect how well a ball bounces - the size of the ball, shape of the ball, weight of the ball, what materials the ball is made of and also the surface the ball is bounced on. Looking for a holiday activity - see how many object your child can find that roll, slide, bounce or spin.
Grades 1 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the Tale-Bot Pro robot. In lesson eight, students used the Tale-Bot Pro to draw. They were able to attach wings to the Tale-Bot, insert a texta and have the robot do the drawing for them.
Grades 2 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the Tale-Bot Pro robot. In lesson eight, students used the Tale-Bot Pro to draw different shapes and patterns. They used their problem solving skills to build a code to produce a specific image. This sometimes took multiple attempts, but was very rewarding when the picture looked like the example.
Grades 3/4 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the VinciBot robot. In lesson eight, students had the opportunity to build their own code for the VinciBot or use the Tale-Bot Pro robots.
Grades 5 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program a micro:bit. In lesson eight, students were able to create their own program on a micro:bit, complete tutorials or use the VinciBot or Tale-Bot Pro robots.
Grades 6 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program a micro:bit. In lesson eight, students finished off their Build a Robot challenge. Unfortunately, due to internet issues and school events, some students were unable to complete the activity this week. They will have time at the beginning of Term 4 to complete their robot and post on Seesaw.
We have had such an enjoyable term in the STEM room and a fun STEM Festival week. Enjoy your holiday break and I look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 4.
