The NPS Way:
Curriculum, Assessment, Reporting
Our most recent Parent Opinion Survey data shows many of our community are unsure of assessment methods as well as how curriculum is taught at NPS. Thankyou for your feedback, we hope this new page will give you a better idea of how we do things. Welcome to the NPS way.

Above is a problem solving Numeracy moderation task that students will be completing this term. Once complete, staff will get together to discuss strengths, misunderstandings, common themes and identify where to from here. Problem solving, thinking strategically and finding patterns are an essential component to our curriculum.
In Literacy this term, students are also screened to detect risk and monitor the development literacy and reading skills, through an assessment called DIBELS. From the website:
"DIBELS ® (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of literacy skills. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures."
Scoring is then calculated based on correct reponses and errors where we can track the progress of each student.
Examples below of nonsense words, regular words and part of a passage that students are assessed with (G3 example).... Students sit one-on-one with their teacher for a period of three minutes (one minute for each test). Teacher records errors and correct responses where an algorithm determines a scaled score.
**This assessment occurs at the begining, middle and end of each year for all year levels.
