Three-Way Conferences

What are Three-Way Conferences?

A St Joseph's teachers and students are currently holding three-way conferences with parents. A three-way conference is a type of parent-teacher interview that actively involves the student in the discussion about their learning, progress, and goals. Unlike traditional parent-teacher interviews where the conversation is just between the adults, three-way conferences place the student at the center of the process. The format fosters collaboration between the student, their parents, and their teacher. It is a positive and effective way to involve families in their child's education. We see these conferences as a vital way to promote effective communication and celebrate student learning. They are integral part of the school's commitment to working in partnership with parents to personalise learning and support each student's development as a unique individual.

The benefits of holding these meetings are:

  • Student voice: Students are encouraged to reflect on their learning journey, share their successes and challenges, and discuss their learning goals with their parents and teacher.

  • Strengthened partnership: The conferences help to strengthen the partnership between home and school, allowing the child to see their parents and teacher working together for their benefit.

  • Empowerment: By participating, students take ownership of their learning and become more responsible for their academic achievements.
