Prep

*In Literacy, we discovered how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples share their deep connection to Country by reading My Country and the Dreamtime story How the Birds Got Their Colours, then we created vibrant artworks inspired by our own special places.

*In Maths, we sharpened our place value skills, spotting more, less, or equal to 10 at a glance and finding number pairs that make 10 through quick-fire games and “Go Fish for Friends to 10.”

*In Inquiry, we began sharing our own “Breaking News” presentations, learning about flags, locations, foods, celebrations, landmarks, and languages around the world while exploring how we’re all connected.

Grades 3 and 4

*We've started our Geography knowledge rich unit and are learning about the different types of environments around the world - stay tuned as we travel around the world, learning about Earth's different features - analysing texts, building our note taking skills, and writing detailed paragraphs.

*In Maths we've been exploring multiplication and division through many different mental and written strategies. We've been focussing on practicing lots of similar problems with a partner until we are confident in the steps needed to solve a problem on our own. Our timestable challenge remains a focus - keep practicing at home!

Enrichment activities in grades 3 and 4

From Miss Wendy: "Our second enrichment activity turned ordinary household items into extraordinary creations. Each piece had its own story, shared proudly with the group, and celebrated for its originality. Activities like this remind us that creativity is a muscle to exercised, strengthen imagination, confidence, and the ability to see the world in new ways."

Grades 5 and 6

Grade 5:

*We've begun our slam poetry English unit, and have been brainstorming topics of passion, words that inspire us, and learning about the features and purpose of figurative language. We've played around with similes a lot this week!

*In Maths we've been using area and perimeter in real life problems- such as carpeting a floor space or glass for windows. Knowing how to use the formula is super handy.

Grade 6:

*We've been busy writing information reports about Poland - its been interesting learning about different countries, and its natural wonders.

*In Maths we've been investigating Cartesian planes- shapes, patterns and coordinates.

*This week in Enrichment@BBPS Grade 5/6 students were emulsifying using eggs and mustard, coding their own games, and designing a safety mechanism for an egg drop - scientists, coders, inventors in action!

Downball Tournament

Our year 5/6 downball teams recently competed in the Victorian Downball State Tournament. We competed against some highly skilled teams and were able to showcase our own skills and our BBPS spirit throughout the day. There was plenty of colour with red and green tutus, face paint and streamers and it was fabulous seeing our students support each other throughout the tournament, while making friends with players from other schools. Thanks to Mrs McCaffery for organising this fun event.

Interschool Snow Sports

Flynn H represented our school last week at the Interschool Snow Sports, which took place at Mt Buller and he skied in three races for Brighton Beach. After a solid training camp in New Zealand, he then competed in the ski cross, moguls and giant slalom races where he finished in the top half of the competition ranking. Well done Flynn!

"Hi, I’m Flynn and I have just taken part in the Interschool Snow Sports competition as a proud representative of BBPS. I participated in the ski cross, moguls and giant slalom events and feel I did my best in all of them. It was a very fun event. I want to now do it every year from now on and I recommend it for anyone who can ski or snowboard, even just for the experience. If a lot of people partake in this competition, Brighton Beach PS might be able to form a ski/snowboard team once again."

Check out this incredible picture of Flynn (Grade 6) in action on the slopes.

Book Parade

What can we say! A brilliant event, led proudly by our captains and supported by the BBPS Team. Costumes were creative, the book quiz was fun, and we all enjoyed parading around the hall to good music and cheers from the crowd. Thanks to our families for attending this fun annual event.

Athletics Carnival

Well done to our speedy parents, winning this year's relay race! Congratulations to all students who gave each event a go, and showed fantastic sportsmanship in celebrating others' success.
