The starting line: take your marks, get set, go!
This past fortnight has been a busy and rewarding one at BBPS.
Our Athletics Carnival was a great day of participation and effort from all students. We congratulate everyone who competed and wish our District Team all the best for their events on Monday. Thanks to our wonderful families who helped facilitate the day. And a thanks to those parents who joined the fun for P-2 Kaboom Sports as well.
School Council Update - August meeting
*Education and Policy: Thank you to the families who completed our recent LOTE survey. While Japanese and French were the more popular choices, no single language stood out. Council has supported the school’s recommendation to first seek the availability of a language teacher for 2026, which might determine which language is offered. In the meantime, our Japanese program, led by Mel Stephens, continues to thrive.
*Marketing and Publicity: We also acknowledge the work of Stephanie Genge in pursuing a review of school zoning, with James Newbury presenting our case to the Minister. At this stage, zoning remains unchanged.
We additionally congratulate staff on the success of 100 Acts of Kindness.
*Buildings and Grounds: Special thanks to Shane Dawes for overseeing several recent maintenance projects, including Kitchen Garden landscaping plans, a grant application for the Exon Playground, and the completion of external repainting.
*Thanks to our Parent Association for the highly successful mid-year event, and to all our sponsors and auction bidders.
*Our Annual Implementation Mid-Cycle report was presented to School Council – where the hard work of our teachers in shifting structured literacy practices and committing to consistent classroom routines and procedures to enable learning was celebrated. Our recent open classrooms were a further opportunity to showcase our learning and wellbeing priorities for 2025.
BBPS prides itself on investing in our teachers. By prioritising high-quality, evidence-informed professional learning, we ensure that teaching practice continues to grow and evolve in line with the latest research. Our staff are supported to take risks, reflect deeply, and collaborate meaningfully, with experienced teacher mentors guiding early career teachers and curriculum leaders driving consistency and innovation across the school.
Book Week was another highlight, with the Book Parade bringing plenty of colour and creativity to the school. Congratulations to the winning class of the 3-a-day book challenge GRADE 2, and thank you to our teachers who encouraged such strong engagement with reading throughout the week. Thanks to Willy Wonka (Mr Stock) and the brilliant Library Captans Lucy, Ciara and Billy for hosting the event. Our Annual Book Fair will take place in November again this year.
Enrolments: As we begin planning for next year, we kindly ask families to email the administration office at brighton.beach.ps@education.vic.gov.au if their child will not be attending BBPS in 2026. This information is very important in supporting the organisation of classroom structures for the year ahead.
We value your opinion – our School Parent Survey remains open for your completion.
Please refer to last week's Compass post titled, "Invitation to participate in the 2025 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey" for the link and password.
Sending our best wishes to the Dreamers Football Team as they prepare for this weekend. Thank you to the staff and families who have contributed their time and energy towards the organisation and fundraising that has supported the team and our school. Go Dreamers!
Students have enjoyed handball and kicking comps, sign and pom pom making to mark the occassion this week.
Don’t forget, we end our week long countdown of Dreamers events with a free dress day tomorrow – come in Dreamers merchandise, team colours, or casual clothes.
We look forward to further welcoming dads, grandpas and special friends into our P-2 and Grade 6 classrooms next week in recognition of Father’s Day.
Don’t worry parents of Grade 3-5, you have not been forgotten, something special is coming home to mark the event.
