Celebrating the Wonder of Book Week 2025 at Bayside

Nothing says Book Week more clearly as the words ‘Book Parade’, but our students were engaged is so much more! Last week, our Bayside, Altona North Campus community came together to celebrate the magic of reading during Book Week 2025. From Monday 18th to Friday 22nd August, our Prep to Year 6 students immersed themselves in a wide range of activities designed to inspire a love of books and storytelling.
The Authors
The week began with a special incursion from author and illustrator Lucinda Gifford, who shared her craft and creativity with students. In her workshops, students combined text and images to bring their own stories to life, sparking imagination and deepening their appreciation of how words and pictures work together.
Tuesday 19th August during an online event with renowned author Andy Griffiths.
Andy Griffiths presented for 35 minutes, sharing insights into his writing process and stories behind his latest release, You, Me and the Peanut Butter Beast. Following the session, students completed a classroom activity inspired by the book, sparking creativity, laughter, and a love of reading.
BOOK WEEK PARADE
Throughout the week, classrooms and library spaces were buzzing with Book Week activities, discussions, and reading challenges. The highlight was our much-loved Book Parade on Wednesday, where students proudly dressed up as their favourite literary characters. The excitement and colour of the parade reminded us all of the joy that reading can bring.
Book Week is always a special time in our school calendar. It not only celebrates the power of books but also reinforces how reading builds the foundation for lifelong learning. Thank you to our staff, students, and families for making it such a vibrant and memorable event.
Students shared their excitement throughout the week:
- “I loved dressing up as my favourite character for the parade – it was so much fun seeing everyone’s costumes!”
- “Meeting Lucinda Gifford inspired me to draw and write more.”
- “Book Week makes reading feel extra special – it’s my favourite week of the year!”
It was wonderful to see students’ enthusiasm and joy as they embraced the magic of stories.
To our amazing teachers, thank you for your hard work in providing our students with an amazing week.
Our Library staff, ink runs through their veins – always ready to inspire.
A heartfelt thank you to our parents and carers for your ongoing support. The effort and creativity you put into making the most amazing costumes brought Book Week to life for our students. We also extend our gratitude to those who joined us for the parade and shared in the joy and excitement of the day. Your involvement helps make these moments truly memorable for our children. We will thank you with a token of our appreciation this week.
A special thank you to our Primary SRC who hosted the event with enthusiasm and confidence. Their interviews and engagement with students added an extra layer of excitement and showcased their wonderful leadership skills.
To all, again thank you and we look forward to 2026 Book Week. Keep reading and enjoy the adventure.
