Sowing the SEADs of Success

From the Assistant Principal: Wellbeing and Engagement

Every Day Is A Purposeful Opportunity

I am struck by the palpable sense of community that permeates within Loreto College. In my first week, it has become abundantly clear that our commitment to student wellbeing and engagement is not just a priority; it is the very foundation upon which the school’s culture is built and felt.

This ethos reflects the teachings of Mary Ward, whose vision emphasised the importance of education grounded in compassion and understanding. It is inspiring to witness how this philosophy is alive and demonstrated through our students’ confidence, leadership and willingness to genuinely engage in conversation.

Each day presents a purposeful opportunity for staff and students to connect with one another. A simple smile or a kind word can create a ripple effect of positivity and quickly build a sense of belonging. These small gestures remind us of our shared humanity and the importance of kindness in our interactions.

By learning to recognise the impact of their actions, students can cultivate meaningful relationships while actively influencing the wellbeing and engagement of others. This week, I would like to commend the students for creating a welcoming atmosphere and I look forward with optimism to what we can continue to achieve together.

Every day, our interactions count, and every individual has the potential to make a difference in the direction of someone’s day.

"Do good and do it well."  Mary Ward.

Year 5 and 6 FYI Wellbeing Workshops

This week, our Year 5 and Year 6 students participated in engaging interactive workshops presented by FYI Education's Richard Rowland ("Agent FYI"), an entertainer and educator specialising in delivering primary school learning experiences.

Year 5 Workshop: Building Positive School Communities

Our Year 5 students explored the importance of respectful relationships and positive community building, particularly relevant in our digital age. The workshop addresses key challenges including:

  • Verbal conflict resolution
  • Physical interactions and boundaries
  • Social dynamics and inclusion
  • Online communication safety
  • Bystander intervention strategies
  • Creating supportive environments

Students learnt practical strategies for standing up for others and fostering inclusive communities through interactive technology-enhanced learning.

Year 6 Workshop: "How to Fail Successfully"

"Failure is not the opposite of success; it is part of success"

Year 6 students participated in a resilience-building workshop that reframes setbacks as learning opportunities. Key focus areas include:

  • Learning from failures and setbacks
  • Challenging negative thought patterns
  • Building resilience and forward-thinking skills
  • Goal setting and evaluated risk-taking
  • Growth mindset development

The program used Growth Mindset language and Interactive Response Units to maximise student engagement.
