Dear Parents & Parishioners,

Greetings from sunny and warm Cairns!  The Australian Catholic Education Conference has been an incredible week of learning and networking. Under the theme ‘hope, anchored in faith’, the conference is largely focussed on exploring the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education through the pillars of Faith, Excellence and Access. To date, the program has featured a rich variety of presentations, workshops, and panel discussions.   In the opening plenary, Nicholas Moore - chair of the NCEC - provided an overview of the impact that Catholic education has across the nation, where more than 800,000 students attend school.  The conference, which has over 1,400 delegates in  attendance, instills a great sense of solidarity.

OHR Kids Disco

Despite the wintery conditions that prevailed last Friday evening,  the atmosphere inside the hall was pumping.  We had to turn off the heaters early during the junior disco as the movement of little bodies inside the hall generated plenty of heat.  DJ Jessie certainly got the mood going with her great selection of tunes.

Thanks to the team of volunteer parents who set up the hall, supervised, fed and hydrated the troops, and packed up at the end of a successful night.  A big note of thanks to Ryan Davis and Cam Jackson for all their efforts in coordinating this year's OHR Kids Disco.  The kids just loved it!

National Science Week

Last week we celebrated National Science Week, although 'at OHR every week is Science Week'.  To celebrate Science Week, the students across the school were challenged by Mrs Axon to create a 'bouncy ball'.  What fun the students had in creating their ball according to the instructions/recipe.

During lunchtime last Thursday, many students gathered upstairs with Mrs Axon as she revealed the science behind transforming dry ice into a gas through the process of sublimation.

MACSSIS

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS): Monday 1 September – Friday 19 September 2025

Throughout each year, we pause to listen to our students, families and staff to gauge how our learning community is travelling. This feedback is invaluable to our progress as effective school communities and is backed by evidence-based research and best practices.

A significant and formal way in which we engage and gather data is through MACSSIS, the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys.

I encourage you to read the Letter of Informed Consent.
