What's happening in the Performing Arts room?
In Prep, we are continuing to learn about rhythm and beat through Body Percussion. Last week we had a go at creating our own in small group. This week we read music that was given to us, and practiced performing as a group. We have also been listening to some musical stories and sharing what we notice about the music and how it adds to the story.
In Grade One and Two we have begun our unit on singing. Students have learned about pitch, and have matched their pitch with Sammy the Snake. We have been singing 'Row Row Row Your Boat' in a round, which some of us have found pretty challenging! Each class also has a song that they are learning to sing as a class. We began working on these this week, and it is wonderful to hear our voices start to come together.
In Grade Three, Four, Five and Six, we have been hard at work creating our own Body Percussion routines to accompany a song of our choosing. Each group has been busy identifying the beat of their song and choosing appropriate Body Percussion moves to create a rhythm. I'm looking forward to watching the performances in Week 6!
Each week, four students from across the school are acknowledged as our Performers of the Week, celebrating their talent and effort in their lessons.
