Performing Arts News

Hi Tarneit Rise families,
Welcome to Week 6's Performing Arts newsletter. We hope you are all enjoying this term of learning below is what students are exploring and consolidating in Performing Arts this fortnight.
Last week Prep students created a whole class dance to tell the story of the Three Little Pigs. Students had to create dance moves to convey the story such as skipping, running and monster walk. This week the Prep students are creating a whole class dance that conveys emotion. They are exploring dances with different emotions and then using this to give them ideas to create their own dance focussed on conveying an emotion.
In week 5 Grade 1 & 2 students learnt about improvising to create music. They worked in groups to improvise music and performed this to the class. This week students are working in groups to create their own songs using mixture of percussion instruments including glockenspiels.
Last week the Grade 3s revised how to play a C and G major chords then learnt how to play F major and A minor on the keyboards and glockenspiels. They practised playing these to different rhythmic patterns and changing between the chords. This week students are learning to play a song as a class rotating between playing the melody by singing or using glockenspiels, playing the chords on the keyboards and creating the rhythm with the untuned percussion instruments.
In week 5 Grade 4 students started creating their whole class song by making melodies using the C Pentatonic Scale which includes the following notes (C-D-E-G-A) on the keyboard. They also experimented with how to play the notes with different rhythms to create the melody. This week in Performing Arts the Grade 4 students are continuing to work on their class song.
Last week the Grade 5 students revised the C, Am, F Em chords they had learnt previously on the ukulele. They have been working on strumming the chords with soft and loud dynamics as well as creating rhythmic patterns with their strumming. This week they are continuing their work on the ukulele by learning how to play G and continuing to revise the finger positions of the C, Am, F and Em chords. They are using these chords to play songs on the ukulele which gives them the chance to practice changing between chords, changing dynamics while playing and creating rhythmic patterns that follow a song with the ukulele.
In week 5 Grade 6 students are continuing their work on the ukulele by learning how to play G and continuing to revise the finger positions of the C, Am, F and Em chords. They have applied their knowledge of these chords to play songs to practice their ukulele technique and changing between chords. This week they focussed on learning to play the keyboard by revising the C, Am, F and G chords they had learnt previously in week 2. They continued to focus on finger positions, creating a rhythm and changing between chords while playing along to a medley of songs.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week in the Performing Arts room
