Student Excellence Program

Andy Griffiths VCES Event (grade 5 students): Last week, a group of lucky students from Tarneit Rise Primary School had the incredible opportunity to take part in the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) event – You & Me and the Peanut Butter Beast Launch with Andy Griffiths.

Andy Griffiths, one of Australia’s most loved and bestselling children’s authors, is well known for his hilarious Treehouse series and many other much-loved books. In this special event, he celebrated the launch of his brand-new book You & Me and the Peanut Butter Beast.

Students had the chance to:

  • Hear Andy share the inspirations behind his stories and characters
  • Learn about his creative writing process and how he develops humour in his books
  • Ask questions and interact with Andy in a fun, engaging session
  • Celebrate the excitement of reading and storytelling alongside other high-ability students across Victoria

The event was filled with laughter, creativity, and inspiration, leaving students buzzing with new ideas for their own storytelling and a deeper appreciation for the joy of reading.

Our students loved being part of this exciting launch and represented Tarneit Rise with pride. A huge congratulations to those selected for this special VCES event! If you want to watch his presentation, we have attached a recording of it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/1VTK_9Y0nMg

Jacqueline Harvey VCES Event (grade 6 students): Last week, a group of selected students from Tarneit Rise had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) Book Week event: NGV a Book Week with Jacqueline Harvey.

This special online writing workshop was hosted by the National Gallery of Victoria and led by Jacqueline Harvey, one of Australia’s most popular children’s authors, best known for her Alice-Miranda, Kensy and Max, Clementine Rose, and Willa and Woof series.

During the session, students were guided through the fundamentals of storytelling, using artworks from the NGV Collection as inspiration. They learned how to:

  • Develop ideas for characters, settings, and plots
  • Use rich vocabulary, descriptive language, and literary devices
  • Write short, imaginative pieces inspired by visual art

Students loved the fun and interactive nature of the workshop and came away inspired to continue their own creative writing journeys.

We are very proud of our selected students who represented Tarneit Rise so enthusiastically during this unique Book Week celebration. A big thank you to VCES and the NGV for making this inspiring experience possible!
