Principal's Message

Dear parents and carers

A Wonderful Celebration of Community

Our Community STEM Night on Tuesday was a huge success, with families and students coming together to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The energy in the gym and STEM room was inspiring as our learners and their families engaged in hands-on activities, experiments, and problem-solving challenges. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a memorable evening of learning and discovery.

In addition, we celebrated Book Week last week, where the joy of reading was embraced across the school. From dress-up parades to shared storytelling, performances, students and staff highlighted the magic of books and the power of imagination. These events are a wonderful reminder of how learning extends beyond the classroom and strengthens our school community.

Learning from High-Performing Schools

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, our Executive Leadership Team has been visiting high performing ‘like’ schools to learn from their practices and bring fresh ideas back to TPPS. Recently, we have had the privilege of visiting:

  • Docklands Primary School
  • Ballarat Clarendon College
  • Springside Primary School
  • Templestowe Heights Primary School

These visits have provided valuable insights into explicit teaching approaches and school-wide practices that support high levels of student achievement and wellbeing.

Sharing Our Practice at TPPS

We have also been delighted to welcome principals, learning specialists, and assistant principals from across the region to TRPS. It has been a privilege to open our doors, share our learning and practice, and engage in professional dialogue with colleagues. These visits not only showcase the strengths of TPPS but also allow us to share our best practice with others, fostering a culture of system collaboration and growth.

Our choir is practicing hard for their State School Spectacular performance on 13th September. The choir have their full-dress rehearsal on September 11th and 12th and we are so excited to see the whole event come together. This truly will be an event not to miss, and tickets are available from www.ticketek.com.au/spectacular

Stay Safe on the Roads.

As the hustle and bustle of daily life continues, it’s easy to overlook the importance of traffic safety. With so many vehicles around the school, ensuring the safety of all road users—drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists—is crucial. Here are some key tips and reminders to keep everyone safe.

1. Stay Focused

Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents. Whether it's texting, adjusting the radio, or chatting with passengers, distractions can have serious consequences. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel. If you need to make a call or send a message, pull over safely first.

2. Obey Speed Limits

Speed limits are set for a reason—they’re designed to keep everyone safe. Driving too fast reduces your ability to react to sudden changes in traffic conditions. Remember, speeding not only increases the likelihood of accidents but also intensifies their severity. We all know the traffic around the school is very congested, and it is very important that we adhere to the speed limit of 40kmph. It is also very important that we show patience and care when driving during these peak times.

3. Use Turn Signals

Always signal your intentions when changing lanes or making turns. This simple action informs other drivers of your plans and helps prevent collisions. Clear communication on the road is vital for everyone’s safety. Please avoid making U-turns along Cloverdale Road during morning drop off, and afternoon pick up because it is very unsafe, due to the high volume of traffic. It is much safer to drive around the clock during these times.

4. Watch for Pedestrians and Cyclists

Pedestrian and cyclist safety is paramount, especially in urban areas. Always yield the right of way to pedestrians at crossings and keep an eye out for cyclists. When passing, maintain a safe distance to ensure they have room to manoeuvre. When cycling and scooting, we must always wear protective helmets.

5. Adjust for Weather Conditions

Rain, snow, fog, and ice can make driving hazardous. Adjust your speed, increase your following distance, and use headlights in poor visibility. Always be prepared for changing conditions, and if the weather is too severe, consider delaying your trip.

6. Stay Informed About Local Traffic Laws

Traffic laws can vary by location. Stay informed about the laws in your area, including new regulations or changes that may affect your driving. Being knowledgeable will help you navigate the roads safely and legally.

Traffic safety is a shared responsibility contributing to a safer environment for everyone.

Planning Ahead – Important Reminders

As we begin to plan for 2026, we kindly ask families to:

  • Notify the school if your child will not be continuing at TPPS next year. This helps us with planning for classes and resources.
  • Submit 2026 Prep enrolments as soon as possible.  Places are filling up fast and accurate enrolment data is vital in ensuring a smooth and successful transition for our new students and families.

Thank you for your support in helping us plan effectively for the future of our school community.
