Year 7 Transition

A Busy Start to Transition at FGHS

Term 1 has been an exciting and busy time for transition at Francis Greenway High School. Our Year 7 students have settled in well, making new friends and experiencing the many opportunities high school has to offer.

Year 7 has been engaging in the Peer Support program, with Teacher Rachel Daniels leading the way. Year 9 and 10 students have been trained as Peer Support Leaders and have been facilitating learning activities and experiences for our Year 7 students to assist in their transition to Year 7, and to support them in developing resilience and skills to navigate challenging situations. Well done to Year 7 and our Peer Support leaders for engaging in the program and having some fun along the way! Peer Support will run until the middle of Term 2.

On Tuesday, 25 February, we welcomed prospective families to our Year 7 2026 Information Evening. The event featured student-led tours, showcasing our fantastic facilities and programs, with a great turnout from families eager to learn more about FGHS.

Looking ahead, I will be available for transition meetings for incoming families on April 3, during the Parent-Teacher Interviews from 3:00 pm – 5:15 pm, followed by another information session from 5:15 pm – 6:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for families to ask questions and learn more about the transition process.

One of the highlights of Term 1 for our Year 7’s is the upcoming Year 7 Camp at the Great Aussie Bush Camp from April 7-9. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build friendships, develop teamwork skills, and challenge themselves in a supportive environment. Students who are not attending camp are expected to attend school as usual. Please speak to Ana Welsh or Year Adviser Mitchell Howard if you have any questions about the camp.

Finally, we have also started facilitating Q&A sessions at our local primary schools, giving students a chance to ask questions and ease any concerns they may have about starting high school.

If you have a student starting Year 7 at FGHS in 2026, please make sure you have completed the EOI before it closes in May. You can find more information about the process of moving to high school and the link to complete your EOI Here: https://year7.enrol.education.nsw.gov.au/

It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we look forward to continuing to support our current and future students through their transition journey!
