The Power of Kindness and Resolving Conflict Respectfully

At Francis Greenway High School, we strive to create a culture where kindness and respect underpin all interactions. In a busy school environment, misunderstandings and conflicts can occasionally arise. How we navigate these moments defines the strength of our community.

We encourage students to approach conflicts with empathy and respect, seeking positive resolutions rather than escalating tensions. Equally important is the role of the adults at school—namely teachers and well being staff —in guiding young people through challenges. By allowing trusted adults to facilitate conflict resolution, students learn valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.

As parents and caregivers, you can support this approach by encouraging your child to seek help from teachers or school leaders when needed. Together, we can reinforce the importance of kindness and ensure our school remains a safe and inclusive space for all.

Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering a school culture where kindness is not just encouraged but expected.

NAPLAN: A Successful Experience for Our Students

Between 12th and 24th March, our Year 7 and Year 9 students participated in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) test.

For our Years 7 and 9 students, the test was an important opportunity to track their literacy and numeracy development. We are proud to report that, for the most part, students came prepared and sat the tests diligently—congratulations to all students involved!

In total, we had 264 students submit over 920 responses across Numeracy, Writing, Conventions of Language, and Reading. These results will help teachers identify strengths and areas needing improvement, guiding future learning strategies.

It's important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing—it’s about understanding where students are at in their learning. While schools use the results to enhance teaching strategies, they should not be the sole measure of a student’s ability or potential.

With the testing period now complete, we look forward to reviewing the results, which will be released later in the year. Parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns with teachers and view results in context with overall academic progress.

Well done Year 7 and Year 9!

Using the Bathroom in Learning Time

Students have two thirty minute breaks throughout the school day as well as the time before school to access our fabulous new toilet block. We strongly encourage all students to use the bathroom at recess and lunch so that they can maximise learning time in class.
