Year 5 Camp Student Relections
We are excited to share that last week our Grade 5 students had a fantastic fun filled week on camp. The students all participated in a variety of team activities, working in teams and enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Students really enjoyed working with one another doing a range of activities they have never done before.
The first part of camp was incredible. But I’m here to tell you about the astonishing first night that we had. We all got in our pjs and headed for the food hall where we were going to have our amazing fashion garbage show. Miss Greenan all picked our groups and in a flash we were already forming our fabulous models into garbage stars.
The second day was a blast! My cabin all woke up still half asleep from the tiring, fun first day. We were going to do 3 rotations today: Initiatives, free time and most importantly- surfing! My group was surfing first, so we all hopped on the bus and headed for the beach. We all learnt the positions on the surfboard and then we hit the waves. Nearly everyone was standing up on their surfboard, it was amazing! The next activity was free time . For free time we all played Gaga ball. In case you don't know, Gaga ball is very similar to dodgeball except you can't pick up the ball and it can’t hit you over your knees. Our next and last activity for the day was Initiative. We all met our instructor and started doing different activities as a team. One of the activities was were we had to work as a team to stand on a picnic mat and try and flip it without falling off. That was the end of our exciting camp day, it was sensational!
On the third day of camp we went down to Rye for an exciting beach day. The weather was not perfect, a bit cloudy and occasionally spitting with rain, but nothing could dampen the fun day. The three groups got straight into their first rotations after an enjoyable bus ride. The activities were snorkeling, kayaking and free time on a wooden playground next to our picnic spot. In the snorkeling we started at the beginning of the pier and snorkeled up. We all were in awe as we admired the breathtaking sea life. In kayaking we played games, like a version of everybody's it and a throwing and catching game. Lunch was either a tomato, cheese and ham sandwich, or an avocado and chicken sandwich. In kayaking some of the groups were lucky enough to see a banjo shark, including my group. Free time was entertaining too, with cricket matches going on, as well as lots of kids frolicking around in the playground. What a wonderful day. I loved the camp experience, and would definitely do it again.
Sadly it was the last day of camp already. I can speak on behalf of all of year 5 saying we were all heartbroken to have to leave camp, but eager to return home. But before we left we had half a day of activities ahead. It was a competition to see which group could score the most points. They were games like skipping, over and under, around the world, all aboard and volleyball. The activities brought us all together. It was a really fun camp.
