Staff Pilgrimage: A Day of Reflection and Renewal in the Jubilee Year of Hope
On Friday, March 7th, our school staff embarked on a meaningful pilgrimage during our School Closure Day, guided by Father Gallacher, our parish priest. His leadership offered us a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our faith, celebrate the Jubilee Year of Hope, and draw closer to God.
This pilgrimage was a powerful reminder of our dual role as Catholic educators, nurturing both the academic and spiritual growth of our students. We are called to live out and model faith, compassion , and hope in our classrooms, helping our students embody Catholic values and serve others.
The day began with Mass at St. Joseph’s Parish, where Father Gallacher led us in prayer for our school, parish, and the world, setting a deeply spiritual tone.
Our first stop was St. Francis Church, the oldest church in Melbourne, followed by a visit to the awe-inspiring St. Patrick's Cathedral, where we reflected on its beauty and significance in Melbourne’s
religious history.
Our pilgrimage continued at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre, where we contemplated the themes of the Jubilee Year of Hope, such as spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and sharing Christ’s love. We were inspired by Mary MacKillop’s mission to care for the poor and bring hope to others. After a short break, we toured the Heritage Centre, learning more about Mary MacKillop’s life and the important work of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
This pilgrimage provided a much-needed time for spiritual reflection and renewal. It reminded us to live our faith, compassion, and hope in our personal lives and our classrooms as we guide our students on their own faith journeys.
Following Ash Wednesday Mass, our school received a heartfelt card from a parishioner, praising the students' participation and reverence during the service. It is truly wonderful to receive such positive feedback, especially from someone with so much wisdom and experience. Her kind words are deeply appreciated and serve as a beautiful reminder of the positive impact our students have on the community. Her thoughtful gesture speaks volumes about the values we strive to instill in our students, and it’s touching to know that their actions left a lasting impression. We are grateful for her encouragement and for the opportunity to be part of a Church community that fosters such warmth and respect.
