Acting Deputy Principal

Senior College P&F

The Senior school P&F is up and running again this year and we have a wonderful core group, but there is always room for more! It is a great way to be involved in your son’s educational journey. We meet once a term, on a Tuesday night from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm, so it is not onerous in regard to time. We would love to see you there, please email Kim Mooney at kmooney@stvirgils.tas.edu.au if you are interested and would like some further information or the next meeting date.

Senior School P&F Easter Raffle - Donation Please

The Senior College Easter Raffle is one of our major fundraisers for the year, but we can’t do it without your help! We are looking for donations of items to put in our Easter baskets, please, it can be a chocolate egg, a chocolate bunny or even a fluffy bunny! It would be wonderful if each family could send in one item to add to the raffle, imagine how many prizes we could offer if this happened. Has your son mentioned playing table tennis at lunch and recess? If so, that is possible due to the money donated to buy the three tables by the Senior P&F in previous years. You can also support this fundraiser by purchasing a ticket or tickets through Qkr! - $2.00 per ticket, 3 tickets for $5.00, 13 tickets for $20.00, or 35 tickets for $50.00.

Cocurricular Opportunities

This week we sent out a broadcast to announce that registrations are now open for a range of new co-curricular activities during Term 2 including Hockey, Rugby Union, Badminton Development and SSATIS AFL Football, to name just a few.

There is no need to re-register for activities from Term 1 continuing into Term 2.

St Virgil’s College offers a large range of co-curricular activities and I thank our dedicated and committed staff who enable us to offer such a wide array of opportunities and congratulate all those students who have made such a positive contribution to our culture by getting involved.

If you have not yet signed up for something, I strongly encourage you to have a go. You never know, you could be the next national champion at something you have never tried before!

ANZAC DAY 2025

Students from St Virgil’s College, both Junior and Senior campuses, are invited to march in the main Hobart Anzac Day parade again this year. Please consider joining us on this very important day. This march is an opportunity for all of us to show our support for past and present service people, and to acknowledge their contributions to the nation. More details will be sent out before the holidays.

Homework vs Study

The old saying “I’ve finished all my homework” may be the case, however, this cannot be said about study. Homework consists of finishing off class work or completing and submitting an assessment task. Homework is teacher-driven and directly relates to the tasks done during class time. The study is self-driven and tests one’s commitment. Study should and can be achieved every night, even when all tasks are submitted. The study can include;

  • Preparing for the subjects you have the next day such as going over your math work done in your last lesson, preparing for the next day.

  • Tackling a topic that you know doesn’t come easy.

  • Researching or exploring further a topic of interest.

  • If all else fails, simply reading is of huge benefit. Find something you are genuinely interested in.

Students need routine and a structured approach. As a family, discern which time suits you and which location will optimise your time. Doing a bit each night will have huge gains in not only your productivity and results but also your confidence and belief. Lastly, don’t forget to get the balance right. Downtime, family time, part-time employment and sporting commitments also have a place for your ongoing wellbeing.
