As the job market continues to evolve rapidly, students need to be well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The World Economic Forum's 2025 Future of Jobs Report highlights several key trends that will shape the future job market, and it is essential for St George’s students to develop the skills necessary to thrive in this dynamic environment.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are seen as essential for future success. These abilities enable students to analyse complex issues and devise innovative solutions. Subjects like Mathematics and Science foster these skills through challenging coursework and practical experiments. Additionally, participating in academic competitions and co-curriculars such as Binar X can further enhance problem-solving abilities.
In today's digital age, digital literacy is indispensable. Understanding and using technology effectively, including basic coding and data analysis, will be crucial. St George's offers subjects like Information Technology and Digital Technologies, which provide students with hands-on experience in coding and digital tools. The school's Inspired Minds program which includes rotations in Artificial Intelligence and Microsoft 101, also helps students build digital proficiency.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities are vital for collaborating with others and conveying ideas clearly. English and Humanities subjects emphasise these skills through essays, presentations, and debates. Our Year 8 students experience this early on, when they participate in Oracy, where students present to external markers on a subject of their choice. Joining the school's Debating Club and participating in public speaking competitions through Mock Trials can significantly improve communication skills and emotional intelligence, which is another key area was mentioned in the report. The ability to understand and manage emotions, empathise with others, and build positive relationships is essential for personal and professional success. Our Pastoral Care Groups and programs focus on developing emotional intelligence, empathy and resilience.
