The excitement is building as we approach one of the most inspiring and impactful events of the year – the World’s Greatest Shave! On Friday, 14 March our school community will come together to support the Leukaemia Foundation, raising vital funds for blood cancer patients and their families. With just one week to go, it’s time to make those final donations and push towards our goal of $14,000!
How Can You Get Involved?
Donate – Every dollar counts! Scan the QR codes around the school or donate here to help us reach our milestones. Throughout Week 7, cash donations will also be collected on the ground floor.
Spread the Word – Share the donation link with family and friends! The more support we get, the closer we are to reaching our goal and seeing our teachers and students take the plunge!
Donation Milestones – Which Teachers Will Step Up?
To make this even more exciting, some of our amazing teachers have put their hair on the line! As we hit key donation milestones, the following teachers will bravely participate:
To celebrate and show our support, everyone is encouraged to come to school with crazy hair! Crimp it, spike it, wear a wig, gel it up, add clips, or get creative with ribbons and braids. No coloured hair is permitted, and all regular hair and grooming rules will return on Monday, 17 March.
Find Your Brave – Support the Cause!
This year’s school theme, “Finding Your Brave”, perfectly aligns with the World’s Greatest Shave. It takes courage to step outside your comfort zone, face uncertainty, and show vulnerability – all in the name of supporting those affected by blood cancer. Let’s demonstrate our school’s commitment to making a difference!
With just one week to go, let’s step up, donate, and smash our $14,000 target! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to see Ms Yoxall or the student leadership team.
Together, we can make a difference – let’s make this the biggest and best World’s Greatest Shave yet!
This year, we proudly introduced 'Green for Growth Day' for the first time ever, a special initiative aimed at raising awareness for gender equality and equal opportunities for all. The idea was sparked by the inspiration we drew from incredible leaders at the Fogarty Futures Conference, which motivated us to take action within our own school community.
As part of this event, students and staff dressed in green, a colour symbolising empowerment and a visual reminder of equality. The enthusiasm and participation were truly inspiring, with everyone coming together to show their support for an important cause.
In addition to raising awareness, the event also served as a fundraiser for the Malala Fund, an organisation dedicated to advocating for girls' education worldwide. Through our collective efforts, we successfully raised $450, which will go towards supporting educational programs for girls in underserved communities.
The Malala Fund was founded by Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai and works in regions where girls face barriers to education, such as Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Their mission is to ensure that every girl has access to 12 years of free, quality education, empowering them to create a better future for themselves and their communities.
We hope to continue 'Green for Growth Day' in the years to come and expand our efforts to promote equality and inclusivity in our school. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated, or supported the cause in any way!
In Week 5, our Year 10 Anglicare Ambassadors enthusiastically participated in their first event of the year—the Anglicare Ambassador Launch. This gathering brought together 21 of our dedicated students, eager to deepen their understanding of Anglicare WA's impactful initiatives and their roles as ambassadors.
Anglicare WA is a not-for-profit organisation committed to driving positive outcomes for individuals, families, and communities across Western Australia. Their extensive range of services addresses critical issues such as homelessness, financial hardship, and family support, aiming to empower those in need and foster lasting change.
During the launch, our ambassadors had the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers from various schools, all sharing a passion for service-learning and community engagement. The event featured interactive quizzes that tested their knowledge and fostered a collaborative spirit. A highlight of the day was the hands-on experience with two of Anglicare WA's pivotal outreach programs: Street Connect and Thread Together.
• The Street Connect program operates a youth outreach service via a dedicated bus, providing support, advocacy, and referrals to young people aged 15–25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. By engaging with youth directly on the streets and in their communities, Street Connect aims to reduce the time young individuals spend without secure housing, offering resources such as freshly made sandwiches, water, toiletries, and first aid supplies.
• Thread Together, in partnership with Anglicare WA, addresses clothing insecurity by redistributing brand-new clothing to those in need. This initiative not only provides essential apparel but also restores dignity and hope to individuals during challenging times.
Inspired by these experiences, our ambassadors are brimming with innovative ideas and are eager to implement initiatives that will make a tangible difference in our community throughout the year. We look forward to supporting their endeavours and witnessing the positive impact they will undoubtedly achieve.
