Swim Carnival Recap
Week 6 was stellar for Gandhi House – culminating in our Sync Swim performance and winning the overall shield at carnival. This year our Sync Swim theme of Jocks and Cheerleaders told an entertaining and fun story for all to watch, and we were lucky enough to take away the win despite fierce competition from Mandela and Lincoln! A massive thank you to our incredible Gandhi Sync Swim leaders and choreographers whose leadership has really shone through over the last four months of practice. The Interhouse Swimming Carnival was an excellent show of sportsmanship and true St George’s spirit. Thank you to all Gandhi students who attended on the day and swam, cheered or wore some great red accessories!
We can now focus in on our next events, Interhouse Cross Country and the Interhouse Performing Arts Festival. We have commenced rehearsals for our Interhouse Dance performance and Interhouse Drama competition which will both be presented in Week 2 of Term Two. The Interhouse Cross Country is also in Week 2 of Term Two so students are looking into taking up a new hobby, 3km runs is a great option! Semester one is certainly busy with many House events, so I encourage all students to get involved and continue to build on our excellent Sync Swim result! Go Gandhi!

As we cross the halfway mark for Term One, I would like to remark on the fantastic start Lincoln has had in Term One. Taking a joint first place in the first House Week event for the year and keeping a healthy total of tokens in the jar gave our House a great boost in points heading into the Interhouse Swimming Carnival.
The atmosphere during the carnival this year was electric, and I couldn’t be more proud of the participation of the Lincoln students who jumped into water and competed. It was heartwarming to see the students cheer for their peers at the side of the pool, with another group waiting by the finish line to cheer on the racers and to provide them with a post-race treat.
The spirit of the House was evident in Lincoln being awarded first place in the Spirit Shield, awarded for demonstrating the most enthusiasm, participation, cheering and sportsmanship.
While we didn’t take first place in Sync Swim this year, it was wonderful to see the hard work of our Lincoln Leaders pay off in the pool with all the students and staff participating.

The Interhouse Swimming Carnival was a fantastic day for Mandela House! We made a splash in the Sync Swim event, earning a well-deserved second place. A huge congratulations to all our students and staff who participated—you brought energy, enthusiasm, and House spirit to the pool. We didn’t win Sync Swim, but I could not be more proud of how we came together for the first major House event of the year. It was incredible to see everyone embracing the spirit of Mandela, having fun and giving their best in and out of the water.
A special shoutout to our amazing House Captain Zuri, and House Prefect Amelie, for their dedication in leading the charge. Their hard work, along with the efforts of so many other students, made our Sync Swim routine a huge success. Thank you to everyone who spent weeks choreographing, organising, and running training sessions—you truly embodied the teamwork that makes Mandela great!
Looking ahead, we’ve got some exciting House events coming up! In Week 2 of Term Two, we will be taking on the Interhouse Cross Country and the Interhouse Performing Arts Festival. Whether you're hitting the track or the stage, I encourage everyone to get involved—train hard, practice your performances, and let’s show the school what Mandela is made of!
