Our annual Interhouse Swimming Carnival was a wonderful way to start the week following the Labour Day holiday. The event was a resounding success, showcasing not only the athletic prowess of our competitive swimming students but also a vibrant display of positive House spirit and camaraderie. The atmosphere was indeed electric, and we were blessed with brilliant weather.
The House Captains and Prefects played a pivotal role in the success of the carnival. They all demonstrated exceptional leadership skills to inspire their peers and encouraged participation focusing on the importance of supporting each other and living the 2025 school theme of ‘Finding Your Brave’ by having a go, whether an experienced swimmer or newcomer. Cheers of support resonated throughout the day, creating an environment where every student felt valued and able to give of their best regardless of their swimming ability. There was something for everyone – novelty races, relays, individual races and the infamous Sync Swim. Each captain and prefect rallied their House with enthusiasm, kindness, empathy and understanding. Their leadership fostered an inclusive atmosphere within each of the designated House bays, ensuring that even the newest members of the school felt empowered to participate and gain points for their respective House. Enthusiastic House spirit combined with a healthy dose of rivalry was on full display in equal measure throughout the day.
The support from our families, many dressed in House colours, was wonderful to see and I sincerely thank so many of our parents and guardians for taking the time to join us at Claremont Aquatic Centre.
The energy and vibrancy of Sync Swim with so many students representing their House in the pool with such pride was palpable. The competition was intense, and the many weeks of rehearsals shone through in all performances. To be able to take rehearsals in the Fitness Centre and on the roof here in the city to the pool is such an incredible achievement. Congratulations to all involved and especially to those students who choreographed their performances. Gandhi House took out the Sync Swim Competition this year by 1 point – a wonderful achievement. Lincoln House was also victorious winning the Spirit Shield for participation, sportsmanship and House spirit. The overall winner was Gandhi House by 301points.
A heartfelt thank you to the many dedicated staff whose tremendous efforts behind the scenes made the carnival such an overwhelming success. The success of the 2025 Interhouse Swimming Carnival and Sync Swim is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the whole school community, highlighting the importance of teamwork, leadership and that important sense of belonging. A special thank you to all the competitors, the Health and Physical Education Department, the Heads of House, the House Captains and Prefects, the parents and everyone who attended – it was a memorable event for all involved. The next swimming event will be the ACC Swimming Carnival on Tuesday, 25 March.
Today marked the first of the AngliSchools 40th Anniversary celebratory events with an all-schools Eucharist Service held at St George’s Cathedral and led by Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy. We were excited to be able to welcome several students to St George’s from our exchange partner school – Cathedral College Wangaratta - as well as from Esperance Anglican Community School, prior to the service, where they were able to see more clearly what life in a city school is like (pictures below). It is always lovely to see our students showcase what is special about their school. The service itself was an incredible event with all 16 schools represented showcasing 40 years of high quality, inclusive, caring Christian education. We are indeed part of something very special. My thanks to Ben, Alison and Ava for being a part of the service representing St George’s.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
