Veronica Del Castillo
Role at St Mary's
Performing Arts Teacher and Religious Education Leader
I lead our St. Mary's Choir and direct our school musicals.
How many years have you been in education?
This is my tenth year. I started as a Year 1/2 Classroom teacher.
(Fun Fact! Before teaching, I was a Nurse!)
What’s your favourite subject to teach?
MUSIC! I love singing along to a fun beat in PA, rehearsing with the main cast for our musicals, singing with the choir or with the whole school for our production finale!
But most of all, I love singing songs of praise (especially for our Easter Liturgy!)
Music for me is a universal language that has a way of connecting people together.
What’s your favourite food?
A warm bowl of spanish mussels or garlic king prawns sitting in oil
or a flavoursome sauce, with a side of bread for dipping ofcourse!
What’s your favourite book?
I always find myself returning to, “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse"
by Charlie Mackesy. I also love reading poetry particularly the works of Tess Guinery,
Yung Pueblo, Mary Oliver and Padraig O'Tuama.
And I must include A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh series!

James Bay and Missy Higgins
Do you support a sports team?
Nope! (I enjoy watching the Tennis! I really miss the Federer era!)
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
Adventures with my family. I love helping my son collect rocks, seaglass and seashells.
We also love camping and night drives chasing the aurora!
If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be?
I'd love to one day look up at the night sky with my family
from a glass igloo to see the Northern Lights!
And I'd love to take my son to Super Mario World in Japan!

This will be my 10th year in education
What’s your favourite subject to teach?
My favourite subjects to teach are Maths and STEM.
What’s your favourite food?
I love Thai food. Yellow curry and Pad See Ew are my go tos
What’s your favourite book?
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes By Mem Fox as it reminds me of my two children

Do you support a sports team?
I barrack for Western Bulldogs; however, my whole family supports Melbourne Demons, so I have a soft spot for them also.
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time in the pool with my children.
If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would it be?
Burleigh Heads in Queensland is my favourite place to visit. I lived and taught there for 2 years before starting at St Mary's
