Hello families,

It has been another fortnight full of learning here at Roxburgh Homestead Primary School. The sun has been shining, and our students are showing some fantastic work in their classrooms.

NAPLAN

Three down, one to go! Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 5 students who have all done a fantastic job completing their NAPLAN tests. The final test (Numeracy) is scheduled for Monday, so please ensure your child is on time and ready to go on Monday morning.

Welcome – Pinar and Mark

Recently, we have appointed two additional ES staff members, Pinar Kublay and Mark Corralluzzo. Pinar and Mark will work directly in classrooms, helping our students who require additional support to access their learning. I’m sure you will join me in welcoming them both to the community.

Community Events:

I couldn’t have been more impressed with the behaviour of the audience and the presentation skills of our student leaders at our first school assembly in Week 5. Seeing our young leaders so competently navigate that assembly was fantastic. I know that a particular source of pride was placed on our student leaders receiving their leadership badges. It made me smile to see such bright young minds representing our community.

On the 19th of March, we will be holding our Iftar Community Night. Though this will be my first time attending, I’ve heard that this event provides a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about cultural traditions, as I know that many in our community observe this important celebration. In the same spirit of learning about cultures in the community, we will also be holding our Easter Event on the 4th of April – stay tuned for more information on that in the coming weeks.

Another event we are looking forward to is the Harmony Week celebrations that will begin next week. This will all culminate with a special Harmony Week celebration on Thursday, where children will be encouraged to either wear orange or something special to share from their cultural background. I see these types of events as a great opportunity for students to learn about themselves, develop their sense of identity and share that with their peers. I personally love learning about all the different cultures in our community and I particularly love sampling some cultural food!

Finally, I’d like to confirm that I am putting Success Day back on the agenda. So many people have told me what a fantastic community event this has been in the past, so I’ll be looking to work with our School Council to bring this special day back to life at the end of the year. I understand this day has had a performance and art component to it, which I think is a great outlet for our students to display their talents. For the sportier kids, I also want to introduce a House Sports Day as well. On this day, families will be invited in to join in the House Celebrations and watch children compete across different events to earn points for their houses. I understand how much the children look forward to events such as these and I know pride is built by giving children an outlet to express their personality either through both art and sporting pursuits.

Watch this space in the coming months!

Have a safe and relaxing weekend,
