Mathematics

Making Maths Fun at Home!
Mathematics is all around us, and engaging children with fun and practical activities can help build confidence and skills. Whether it’s measuring ingredients in the kitchen, counting change at the shops, or spotting patterns in nature, maths is a valuable part of everyday life.
Maths Game: The Number Hunt
A great way to develop number recognition, addition, and problem-solving skills is through a simple game called The Number Hunt.
How to Play:
- Write numbers (or simple equations) on sticky notes and place them around the house.
- Give your child a number or equation to find.
- Once they find the correct note, they must solve the equation or say the number aloud.
- For older children, include clues that lead them from one number to the next.
- Make it more exciting by adding a small reward for completing the hunt!
This game is a fun and interactive way to reinforce math skills while keeping children engaged.
Maths at Home Tip: Cooking with Numbers
Cooking is a fantastic way to teach children maths without them even realising they’re learning! Ask them to measure ingredients, double or halve a recipe, or set a timer. Older children can work out the cost per serving or convert measurements between grams and cups. These real-life applications help children see the importance of maths in daily life while also making it fun and rewarding.
Encouraging maths in everyday activities helps build confidence and enthusiasm. Have fun exploring numbers together!
S.T.E.M. Club
Our STEM leaders - Daniel, Lincoln and Evan have started a STEM Club. Monday morning the boys showed how chemical reactions can cause explosions through the use of vinegar and bi-carb soda. We look forward to seeing what they come up with next!
