Art/Design News

It has certainly been an eventful beginning to the year in Visual Arts at Ballarat High School. We congratulate our Art Captains, Isabelle Tobin and Charlie Purcell , as well as our Vice Captains, Maggie Phillips and Tarli Meade. We also welcome Bryce Brown to the team in a new role as House Art Coordinator. Our committed Captains have already been busy organising and preparing a program for Friday lunchtime Art Club, as well as art activities for Swimming Sports and Athletics Day. The 'School of Fish' activity held at the Swimming Sports was a resounding success, and we look forward to seeing the collaborative displays of colourful fish adorning our House meeting rooms!

A number of our 2024 Art graduates have received notable accolades for their exceptional artworks and folios. Kiera Canfield-Cully (Art Creative Practice) was shortlisted for the prestigious Top Arts 2025, National Gallery of Victoria. With just 62 students selected statewide, we congratulate Keira on this significant achievement. Jett Leduc (Art Creative Practice) was selected into Top Arts 2025 for her piece 'I Learned Why', which also received the Wesley B Walters Acquisition Award in 2024. Jett will be representing Ballarat High School at Top Arts for the second year running, as she was also selected as a Year 11 student in 2023. We congratulate Jett on her exceptional achievements and acknowledge the mentorship of Keira and Jett's teacher, Kaitlyn Fry.

Additionally, the following 2024 graduates have been selected into Next Gen 2025:  Jett Leduc (Art Creative Practice), Molly Hayes and Ash James (Art Making and Exhibiting). Congratulations to our students on their efforts and proud representation of Ballarat High School in regional Victoria. We also acknowledge the mentorship and guidance of Art Making and Exhibiting teachers, Scott Haskins and David Harradine.

Our current cohort of Art and Design Students are settling into the term well - busily thinking, making, creating and attending local exhibitions. We look forward to celebrating student success with Art displays and pop-up exhibitions in the Sedgwick Centre, Library and various locations across the school - so do stay tuned!
