5/6 Learning News

Wumindjika
The vibe in the classroom right now is all about doing our best, realising that challenges aren’t always scary, and building stronger connections with each other. It's been a joy to watch 5/6 learners grow and support one another. The growth already has blown me away.

Literacy
The 5/6 learners have embraced their inner authors this week, drafting stories for the Furphy Literary Award Writing Competition. Their stories explore the theme, 'Australian Life in All Its Diversity.' We've built on our knowledge of compound and complex sentences while learning new ways to hook readers and create tension through multiple problems.
Seeing their joy, pride, and enthusiasm for writing has been truly exciting!
Here are some teasers of what they've written so far

Civics & Citizenship: Together We Belong
As we continue exploring democracy, we’re excited to have Annabelle Cleeland and Claire Ewart visiting for a Q&A session on democracy, law, and leadership.
This week, we discussed what makes a 'good' leader and the qualities they show.
Our donation of the Persuade Parliament board game gave learners a hands-on way to explore political concepts, debating themes like the environment, equality, rights, and law.
"Good leaders deliver the things they promise" – Ivy.

Choose Day
This week, we kicked off our first Choose Day sessions for 2025, and the excitement was high! Students took part in activities like mindfulness, fishing, cooking, aged care visits, gardening, board games, and Run Club. It’s been fantastic to see the benefits, with teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving skills on display. Our 5/6 leaders have also stepped up, showcasing responsibility, leadership, and cooperation throughout the sessions.
Lewis - I like cooking and getting to enjoy what I have made.
Andy - I saw a lot of fish and no one got hurt while fishing.
Tatum - I liked helping the younger kids set up their fishing rods.
River - I loved in board games that people were being fair and self umpiring.
Seb - I ran the Run Club and I liked that people listened and followed instructions and that they had fun.
Hope you all have a fun, relaxing long weekend ❊
