Foundation 

Dear Families,

Another wonderful fortnight in our Foundation classroom!  We celebrated the birthdays of our  Frankie and Mila. Everyone had a fantastic time. Frankie chose a fun game of Toilet Tag, while Mila opted for a bit of free-choice time.

We also had the joy of participating in our Opening School Mass this week. A few of our Foundation students volunteered for special jobs. All of us were proud of how reverently the Foundation students participated in this special celebration.

Next week, we’ll be holding our learning conversations. This is a wonderful opportunity to touch base and discuss how your child is settling into school life. If you are unable to attend, please contact me and we can easily arrange another time.

 As your child may have mentioned, we’ve been exploring rhyming words and playing rhyming games, as well as investigating syllables in words. This week, we began learning the sound for "m." You may like to practise writing it at home to reinforce the learning or simply discuss words that have this sound at the beginning. 

In Mathematics, we’ve been delving into patterns and learning about the unit of repeat. The students have been identifying patterns and continuing them, as well as using concrete materials to create their own. We’ve also been practising representing numbers 1–15 through numerals, collections of objects and starting to use tens frames. Our subitising skills are developing too, with students working on recognising how many ‘dots’ they see on dice.

I continue to be amazed by how quickly our young learners have adapted to the routines of school life. They’ve shown great organisational skills, ensuring they start each day with everything they need and they’ve become adept at knowing where learning resources belong, making sure everything is packed away after each session. It's clear that we have a very helpful and supportive group of children in our classroom. Overall, it’s been another fortnight filled with plenty of laughs and great learning. It’s so rewarding to see how quickly the students are absorbing new information and developing a shared love of learning.
