Social Media Age Restrictions
‘The Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 introduces a mandatory minimum age of 16 for accounts on certain social media platforms, forming one part of a broader strategy to create safer digital spaces for everyone.’ (eSafety Commissioner, 2025)
The age restrictions will take place in December 2025, with the onus on the social media companies to uphold and enforce the age restrictions. It is important to note that parents play a vital role in ensuring the online safety of their children. Find out more here.
