Library News

Hello from the library! It is true: the library now has air-conditioning! A big thanks to the PFA for helping to make our little refuge even more welcoming.
We celebrated International Women’s Day last week. Some of our most popular books are written by Australian women! We love picture books by Jane Godwin, Anna Walker and Davina Bell. Shorter fiction such as Melina Marchetta’s Zola series, Children’s Laureate Sally Rippin’s books (Hey Jack!, Billie B Brown & Polly & Buster series) are in demand. Nova Weetman, Karen Foxlee, Judith Rossell, Katrina Nannestad’s novels and being enjoyed. The graphic novels of Raina Telegemaier, Remi Lai, Shannon Hale, Tui Sutherland’s Wings of Fire series are borrowed out as soon as they hit the shelves.
Lunchtimes continue to be busy with a mix of ages. It was beautiful to see senior students Henry, Djuna and Edi reading picture books to preps and showing such kindness and responsibility. Everyone is still really excited to be able to take a book home (especially the preppies)—just a reminder that the loan period is for two weeks.
Scholastic Book Club issue 2 magazines will be handed out this week. Orders need to be submitted by midnight, Sunday 23 March. Newlands receives 15% of the order total in credits which can be used to buy more books for the school.
We’ve had some great new titles recently: The Wild Robot trilogy, Sophie Beer’s Thunderhead, Garth Nix’s We Do Not Welcome Our Ten-Year-Old Overlord, Stella & Marigold, Hazel’s Treehouse and many, many picture books with more to come.
Thanks to the family who submitted some donations. Please let me know who you are!
The library is open after school on Wednesdays for families to browse. Come and say hello or send me an email: jessica.petrie2@education.vic.gov.au
