English - Parent Information Sessions

You are warmly invited to attend a Parent Information Session about English at St Louis. The purpose of this session is to share with parents some of the changes we have made to the teaching of literacy and the reasons behind the changes.

There will be two presentations offered as follows -

Prep - Year 2: Wednesday 26 March 2.20 - 3.10pm **

The session will cover -

  • how students learn to read and write
  • phonemic awareness and phonics
  • decodable books
  • home reading
  • Little Learners Love Literacy
  • use of rich literature

**Prep parents please note - this session will include some of the information presented at the Prep Information Night a few weeks ago. If you attended that session, please be aware there will be some repeats in this session but you are still most welcome to attend if you would like.

Year 3 - Year 6: Monday 24 March 8.50 - 9.40am

The session will cover -

  • skills for fluent and effective reading
  • what is a structured literacy block?
  • vocabulary, fluency and comprehension
  • use of the Ochre Novel Study
  • explicit instruction in English

An Operoo will be sent out regarding these sessions and seeking an expression of interest to help us determine numbers.  We will then confirm where, within the school, the session will be held. If needed we will run an additional session and the presentation will be shared afterwards for those interested but unable to attend. If you have any questions please contact English Leader Angela Healy (ahealy@stlouisaspendale.com).
