Year -1/2 Unit

As the term draws to a close, we are still busy with our learning. However, we definitely have some excited little learners looking forward to the holidays!

Over the past few weeks, our students have thoroughly enjoyed their time at Kyneton Aquatic Centre - Aqua Aware Swim Excursion, learning about swimming safety.

Just a reminder that students need to bring the following:

  • Bathers (worn under their uniform when arriving at school)

  • A waterproof bag containing:

    • A towel

    • Underwear

    • A swimming cap (compulsory for all students – please ensure this is purchased/obtained before the excursion)

Please make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Reading: In Reading, we have been analysing vocabulary, focusing on adjectives. We have also explored different reading strategies to support students in developing their reading skills. One key strategy involves encouraging students to ask themselves: Does it make sense? Does it sound right? Does it look right? and to reread sentences when needed. This approach is essential in helping children build their comprehension and confidence as readers.

Writing: In Writing, we have been having fun exploring persuasive writing. Students have come up with creative and interesting ways to convince their readers of their opinions. This has been a great opportunity to help them develop a clear understanding of what it means to have an opinion and how to persuade others by providing strong reasons.

Students have learned how to structure their writing with an introduction, supporting reasons and a conclusion. They have also had the opportunity to publish and share their work, trying to convince their classmates with their arguments.

Maths: Students have been learning about different aspects of time. They have explored time as a measurement using minutes, hours, and weeks, as well as understanding the months of the year, days and hours. Additionally, they have examined the duration of time through calendars, months and seasons.

Inquiry: In Inquiry, students have been using Kiddle to research facts about their chosen invention. They have also had the opportunity to showcase their findings by creating a brochure. This task has been an exciting way for students to get creative while presenting their research in a different format.
