Specialist's Update

Art Room Update
Welcome parents to term 1 of visual arts. This term grades Prep, one and two will be participating in art activities.
All grades have been introduced to the art room with short discussions at the beginning of lessons on expectations and rules which will hopefully keep our art room a safe, happy, and engaging place.
Now is a good time to remind parents that all students should have an art smock to protect their clothes. As always, I do not exclude children from taking an active part in any of our activities.
If they don’t have an art smock I will endeavour to keep them paint, clay, pastel and glue free. However, this can be a tricky task at times, and the responsibility for clean clothes ultimately rests with parent choice.
Preps this term are enjoying the exploration of drawing and painting plus several multi-media activities. We will be focusing on how we hold and cut with scissors and how to correctly glue paper shapes.
Grade ones will be given a simplified introduction to several artists, which will then be used to influence their art works. An example of this is their Picasso Zoo animals. They will also be exposed to some new media such as paper magic modelling clay and different construction materials.
Grade two will spend time revisiting the skills they have already mastered and establishing new ones such as clay building and printing.
In the next ‘At A Glance’ I will try to include a few photos of our children at work but in the meantime, please have a quick peep at the display boards outside the art room. You may find some of your child’s art on display.

‘Welcome to Auslan’
Auslan is short for Australian Sign language, a language developed by, and for, Australians who are deaf or hearing impaired. It’s a visual form of communication that uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning.
In term 1, the prep students have been introduced to the Auslan language beginning with the alphabet, colours, everyday signs, family signs, school signs and farm animals. These signs can be combined to build Auslan communication, and we are so excited to see already how the students have embraced this new language.
The grade 1 to grade 6 students are building on their knowledge from last year and this term are learning signs for breakfast, transport, shopping, outside the house, vegetables, and shapes.
Be sure to get your child to show you some of the signs they have learned already. 😊
