Be part of the 2025 Palm Sunday action for Kindness and Justice.   There will be a rich program of music, speakers from refugee and faith communities, and a range of information stalls.   The well-known comedian and human rights supporter Tom Ballard will be our MC, and Gillian Triggs AC, formerly Australian Human Rights Commissioner, will be amongst the guest speakers.

Australia's commitment to ‘a Fair Go’ is being betrayed by the cruel and inhumane refugee policies of both major political parties.  At the same time, a volatile geopolitical climate and the cost-of-living crisis are straining Australia’s social fabric.  We must resist divisive narratives that dehumanise or scapegoat refugees, migrants, and others.  We need to stand up for Justice and Kindness.

Thousands of people seeking refugee protection in Australia who are still in limbo – still needing certainty about their future.

  • After 11 long years, more than 8,000 people are still waiting for permanent visas after 11 years in the Australian community.
  • People on bridging visas have no income safety net, and some people have no workrights, and no access to Medicare.
  • Many young people who qualify for university are unable to study, even though they have done all of their secondary schooling here in Australia.
  • Around 1000 people who were held in detention for years in shocking conditions on Nauru and in PNG still have no pathway to safe resettlement
  • Over 40 refugees and people seeking asylum are still trapped in PNG – many of them in very poor health and with no pathway to safe resettlement.
  • Around 14,0000 refugees are stranded in Indonesia because they have been blocked from resettlement in Australia since 2014.
