Spotlight on Learning

Early Stage 1

We are so excited to welcome our new Kindergarten students to Roselea for 2025! Our Kindergarten students have jumped into their new adventure with excitement and energy. From exploring to crafting, it's been a week of fun and learning all about school!

Arts and Crafts

Kindergarten have been enjoying making crafts in class. These fun paper projects have been a great introduction to show the students what they have to look forward to as they develop their fine motor skills and creativity. Keep an eye out for some of their beautiful masterpieces in the classrooms!

School Tour Adventures

The Kindergarteners had a blast on their school tour! They were thrilled to discover all the exciting places they’ll be visiting throughout the year, from the library to the playground. It was great to see their faces light up with curiosity and wonder as they learned about their new school environment.

Buddies with Year 6

One of the highlights so far has been meeting their Year 6 buddies. These older students have been such fantastic role models, guiding our Kindergarteners through their first days with kindness and care. From hanging out at lunch to helping with activities, our Year 6 buddies are making the Kindergarten experience even more special.

We are so proud of how our Kindergarten students have settled into their new school year, and we can’t wait to see all the growth and learning ahead!

Stage 2

Stage 2 students have been buzzing with excitement as they settled into their new classrooms this term. The transition has been smooth, with students quickly adapting to the new rules and classroom expectations. Their enthusiasm is clear as they explore their learning environments, and they have embraced the chance to create a positive and engaging space for everyone. The teachers have also been getting to know the students, building strong relationships that will support their learning.

In addition to getting comfortable in their classrooms, Stage 2 has kicked off an exciting novel study of "The Thing About Oliver." The students are diving into the story, connecting with the characters, and discussing important themes. Alongside their reading, they are learning fascinating facts about the Great Barrier Reef, enhancing their understanding of this incredible natural wonder. Students are busy writing and reviewing narratives and persuasive texts, discussing what makes a good piece of writing. They have also shown Mrs Jones their expert handwriting skills, ensuring they have the correct pencil grip, posture, and letter slope.

3/4J has finished their first week by creating wonderful artworks for parents to enjoy at the upcoming Meet the Teacher event. The Stage 2 teachers, Miss Foster, Mr Yu and Mrs Jones are thrilled about the wonderful year of learning and new discoveries ahead, and they can't wait to see what the students will achieve together!

Stage 3

Stage 3 has kicked off the year with an engaging study of the Australian classic, Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. This beautiful novel not only introduces our students to a captivating story but also immerses them in the greatness of descriptive language.

As we delve into the opening pages of Storm Boy, students are discovering how Thiele expertly sets the scene and begins to develop the main characters through his vivid descriptions. To enhance their understanding of language, students have been noting down vocabulary and phrases that they find unusual or particularly interesting. Some examples include "long snout of sandhills," "tussocky," "snakes of salt," and "writhes."

In our lessons, students have classified these words into categories such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. This activity not only helps them appreciate the richness of the language but also strengthens their writing skills by expanding their vocabulary.

We look forward to continuing this literary journey and encouraging our students to explore the themes and messages within Storm Boy
