Year 8 News

Gareth Hose & Kate Gardner, Year 8 Coordinators

Well done to all of our year 8’s on such a positive start to 2025. Students have navigated the first few weeks of school extremely well adapting to their new subjects and any changes that have needed to be made. We hope this positive attitude continues as we progress through the term.

Swimming Sports

Well done to all of the year 8 students who attended the swimming sports on Friday. Thankyou for supporting such an event, this is important for these types of events if they are to continue. It was great to see so many of our year 8’s swimming in either the competitive events or the novelty events. Congratulations to Poppy White and Hylton Penfold who were both crowned age group champions!

Values

There have been a number of students doing great things within the classroom, with many receiving recognition from their teachers through values notes. We want to acknowledge and congratulate the following students who have received 5 or more

  • Xavier Skurrie

  • Sarah Gellatly

  • Ellie Schmidt

Lockers

Congratulations to our Year 8’s who have been identified as the best year level in regards to looking after their lockers and the locker area. It is so great to see students locking their lockers and keeping the area tidy. Students were rewarded for their efforts with a free zooper dooper! There are still a few Year 8 students without locks on their lockers. Please ensure that your child has a lock on their locker to not only protect their belongings during the school day, but to also help limit the amount of rubbish around the Year 8 lockers. Lockers without locks are often opened by the wind which causes paper and other belongings to be scattered around the Year 8 area.

Hats

As we are in Term 1 – this means that all students are required to be wearing their Horsham College school hat when they are outside at recess and lunch, as well as in their PE classes. If your child does not have a hat, a new hat can be purchased from the front office here at School.

Absences

We want to see all students at school as much as practical, so if your child is away, please let us know by logging it on SEQTA or calling the absence hotline on 5381 7200. If your child is away for reasons other than illness, please feel free to call the Year 8 Office on 5381 7108 or contact their Form Group teacher via SEQTA Direqt Message so we can support their attendance where required.

Reminders

Students are reminded to return their local excursion, student expectations and media consent forms to the Yr 8 office.
