Public School Review
Our families from last year would be aware that a Public School Review was undertaken of the College. These reviews involve external examination of our systems and practices to analyse our performance and plan for improvement. The review report was provided last week and was very positive. In the covering letter the Deputy Director General Schools said;
I understand that the College is valued by families and the community for the unique learning experiences provided in a rich agricultural context, with the application of high industry standards. It is clear that, underpinned by high expectations and the integration of industry experience and academic and practical learning, students are achieving an extensive range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications and academic achievements. I also understand the school is developing clear pathways for student success evidenced in the school’s positive post-school destination data.
Our success is a result of great systems and practices but also a committed professional staff and industry support, plus positive and supportive families. Our next review will be in three year's time. My thanks to all staff, the College Board and the Agricultural Advisory Committee plus and our broader community.
The full report can be found on our website.
2024 Year 12 Destinations
This week I have started making contact with our Year 12s from 2024 to learn what they are up to. I enjoy making these phone calls and hearing about the range of employment and study our graduates are up to. So far, everyone I have contacted is involved in some form of employment, mostly full time, or further training. Ultimately our end goal is to assist students in employment or further studies when they leave us, so it is great to have our efforts vindicated.
Student Council
I sat in on the Student Council meeting this week and was impressed with the calibre of our student leaders. College Co-Captain Maggie Kilrain is articulate and passionate about wanting to make a difference this year. Combined with the existing Year 11 and 12 student representatives, I have great confidence that they will represent the students in a positive and productive way.
Later in the term we will elect additional Year 11 representatives, plus Year 10 representatives to the group. Next week the councillors are attending a leadership camp where they will learn leadership and organisational skills that will enhance their capacity in their role. Thanks to Patrick as the main architect of the camp.
Year 10 Board Representative
The College Board plays an important role in overseeing the College Business Plan and Priorities, reviewing performance data, approving fees and ensuring the finances align to the needs of our students and expectations of the Department. The Board is not involved with day-to-day school operations, staff management, nor is it an avenue for complaints.
The Board is made up of staff, parent, community and student representatives and meet once each term, normally aligned to collecting students for end of term or closed weekends. We are seeking nominations for a Year 10 parent representative to join the Board. Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions about the role.
