Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

Welcome

A very Happy New Year to all students and Parents, Guardians and Carers. A big welcome to new students and families, and a welcome back to families already in our community. We wish everyone all the best for 2025.

This year as a community we have the theme of “Pilgrims of Hope”. As Christians we hold hope as one of the three theological virtues and the source of our hope is Jesus Christ, the Nazarene. It is He who is the centre of our community and the one whom we draw from, follow and model ourselves on. The resurrection shows us that even in the most hopeless of situations there is always the hope of new life.

One way we grow in the virtue of hope is through having an attitude of gratitude and making gratitude part of our daily routine. Here at Nazareth we have so much to be grateful for including our fantastic students, wonderful staff, new and continuing to improve facilities and the breadth of opportunities offered. Another great reason for us to be grateful is the wonderful new staff that we have joining our community this year. We have a very desirable blend of youth and experience, with great people who have the expertise and the passion to make our community even better. For these wonderful new staff and the fantastic new students I am very grateful. With all these things to be grateful for, we move forward on the journey that is 2025 with great hope and excitement.

Pastoral Teachers

At Nazareth students are in vertical Pastoral Groups and usually have the same Pastoral Teacher for a number of years. The Pastoral Teacher is the first point of contact with the College and is a central figure in the pastoral care of your child. Pastoral Teachers will be, if they have not already done, reaching out to welcome you to the 2025 school year. They are happy to be contacted and we encourage you to contact Pastoral Teachers should there be any questions, issues, problems or information that you can share that may assist us in our care and education of your child.  Attached is a list of the Heads of House and Pastoral Teachers for 2025.

Our Year 7 students have made a very positive start which has been great to see. Well done to these students and to their families. It can be a difficult time starting at a new school so to the Year 7 students, and to all students new to Nazareth, we welcome you. We encourage you to please come forward to staff if there are any questions, issues, etc so we can support you.

For our Year 7 students we have employed past students in the role of a Year 13 student for February to be an extra support. They are there to help and guide our students and answer any questions, so parents and carers please advise Year 7 students to utilise our Year 13 students.

Child Safety

At Nazareth College we take Child Safety very seriously. If you ever have any concerns or questions in relation to Child Safety please do not hesitate to contact myself, Ms Jackie Kol Director of Student Wellbeing or one of our College counselling team, Casey Cillia, Arlene Diston, Brooke Lockhart or Gaylene Reid who are the College’s Child Safety Team.

Student Expectations

You will be aware that we sent numerous letters from late last year regarding student expectations and our desire to further improve the school. This has been part of our assemblies and conversation with the students as we move forward on this 2025 Pilgrimage of Hope, confident our community is growing and improving. We thank parents for their support of their children with organisation, College expectations and uniform etc. There has been a noticeable improvement in student punctuality, readiness to learn and wearing of the College uniform which is pleasing. We look forward in hope to this continuing to improve.

Thank You

Thank you for your support, parents and carers. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the most appropriate staff should there be any questions, concerns or issues so we can assist with.

We look forward to working with you in partnership in 2025. It works best for all students when we are working as a united team. Thanks for trusting us and we look forward to working together this year.

God Bless

Mr Justin Duckett
