Religious Education

C4: God, Religion and Life - Faith, through prayer and action

In this unit, students will explore prayer and action as a means of growing in faith. They will be introduced to experiences of prayer, drawn from the rich Catholic tradition. Students will explore how Jesus taught us to pray, the place and purpose of prayer and a variety of prayer styles. Students will come to understand that it is the Holy Spirit, alive and active in our lives, that gives us the courage to follow Jesus. The unit focuses on exploring examples of people who demonstrate their faith, inspired by the Holy Spirit, lived out in prayer and action.

E4: Program Morality & Justice - The Commandments

This unit examines how the Commandments of God guide us to live the Christian life. This forms the basis for introducing and exploring Jesus’ new commandment with reference back to the Ten Commandments. The unit leads to a deeper understanding of how the Commandments guide us in living in right relationship with God and others.

They’ll learn how energy can be created, transferred, and used in everyday life. Through hands-on investigations, students will discover how energy and forces are connected and how they play a role in making products and systems work. Additionally, students will participate in Science Week in Week 4.

History

This term the students will be studying ‘First Contacts'. This unit gives students an insight into what it was like to explore the seas in the early modern period. They will identify how the major discoveries changed the world and the positive and negative effects of world exploration. The students will examine the impact the arrival of Captain Cook had on the Indigenous Australians.

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

This term, in sport, students will develop their skills in European Handball and Volleyball, with a strong focus on teamwork, coordination, and strategic play. In European Handball, students will refine their techniques in passing, shooting, and defending, with an emphasis on smooth transitions between attack and defence. These skills will support them in the upcoming Interschool Sports Gala Day on the 13th of August. In Volleyball, students will work on serving, setting, and forearm passing, aiming to boost accuracy and control. Through targeted drills, mini-games, and structured match scenarios, students will strengthen their communication, spatial awareness, and decision-making, preparing them for both competitive and cooperative gameplay.

Additionally, students will learn about road safety, covering essential topics such as safe practices when walking, riding as a passenger, and responsible use of roads.

Open Parachute will continue to be implemented K-6 on Fridays. Open Parachute aims to provide practical support on mental health to students. They will have opportunities to express themselves creatively while developing their understanding of visual storytelling and artistic intention. As part of our Term 3 program, students will also be preparing for Book Week, responding to the beautifully illustrated text “Flora” through a range of creative tasks. In addition, students will be engaging in special Father’s Day art projects, where they will design and create thoughtful pieces to celebrate and show appreciation for the important father figures in their lives.

In Music with Mr Parlato students will compose, perform, and create music using their voices, bodies, and various sound sources including digital composition tools. Students will explore music, composed and inspired by Beethoven and develop their understanding of pitch, dynamics, notation and form within music

Homework

This term, we’ve made a few changes to our homework routine to better support student learning and ensure tasks are closely aligned with classroom content. One key change is in Mathematics. The Maths Plus mentals workbook will no longer be sent home. Instead, students will receive a weekly maths worksheet that reflects the concepts being taught in class. In addition to this, tasks may also be assigned through Studyladder to provide further practice and reinforcement.

Year 4 students are encouraged to spend up to 30 minutes on homework each day. This includes 20 minutes of nightly reading, which is an essential part of their learning. Students are required to record what they read in their reading log each day, and we kindly ask parents to sign the log to confirm this. The reading log and homework book, which students will use to complete set tasks throughout the term, are both due every Friday. For further details regarding homework requirements, go to Google Classroom Homework Landing Page.
