YEAR THREE
Grade Bulletin - Term Three, 2025
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School provides a range of holistic learning experiences to enable students to:
C3: God, Religion and Life - Christian Goodness
Year Three will begin term 3 exploring the 'God, Religion and Life- Christian Goodness' unit. In this unit, students will learn that they are created and loved by God. Students will learn about the second story of creation, which speaks of the creative act of God, an outpouring of divine love and goodness, in which we are all called to share. The students are encouraged to explore their giftedness and identify how they can use their gifts for the good of all. The students will identify ways they can give glory, praise, and thanks to God through prayer and the celebration of the Eucharist. The unit finally focuses on sharing God’s love, through the ways we live in the right relationship with God and other people, using Jesus as our example.
D3 - The Sacrament of Eucharist
This unit develops students’ understanding of the celebration of the Eucharist. The unit focuses on the key parts of the Mass and explores the ways Christ is present. It presents the Mass as central to the life of the community. In sharing the Eucharist we become one body in Christ. During this unit, students are encouraged to attend Mass to embed learnings (actions, words and symbols) of the structure and significance of the Mass.
This term, Year 3 will explore persuasive texts in the form of literature and speeches. These texts include Dear Mrs LaRue by Mark Teague, and The Great Kopak Tree by Lynne Cherry as well as multimodal persuasive speeches. The students will develop their skills in persuasive writing through a Stage 2 Public Speaking Competition. Students will follow the ‘Seven Steps of Writing’ program to compose a speech and will be taught public speaking skills. They will also be taught explicit skills in relation to reading, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Students will engage in the ’Sound Waves Spelling’ program, which is implemented throughout the whole school.
The students are explicitly taught concepts from the NSW Mathematics K-10 Syllabus. The topics taught in Term 3 include: Three-Dimensional Non Spatial Structure (Volume, 3D Objects) Chance and Data, Representing Number and Additive Relations, Geometric Measure (Angles), Two-dimensional Spatial Structure (2D Shapes), Multiplicative Relations, Two-dimensional Spatial Structure (Area). The students will continue to engage in a numeracy fluency program to develop counting patterns, as well as facts and strategies for mathematical operations. Each class will provide differentiated activities according to their class's learning needs.
The students will also take part in daily review and use their maths mental books to build fluency and help consolidate their skills.

The unit for this term is ‘Community and Remembrance’. This topic provides a study of identity and diversity in both a local and broader context. Students explore the historical features and diversity of their community. They examine local, state and national symbols and emblems of significance, and celebrations and commemorations, both locally and in other places around the world.
In Science and Technology, Year 3 will be exploring the Material World. Students will focus on how solids, liquids and gases change state and the properties of natural and processed materials. Students investigate how different properties of materials affect their suitability for products.
This term, in sport students will develop their skills in European Handball and Volleyball, with a strong focus on teamwork, coordination, and strategic play. In European Handball, students will refine their techniques in passing, shooting, and defending, with an emphasis on smooth transitions between attack and defence. These skills will support them in the upcoming Interschool Sports Gala Day on the 17th of September. In Volleyball, students will work on serving, setting, and forearm passing, aiming to boost accuracy and control. Through targeted drills, mini-games, and structured match scenarios, students will strengthen their communication, spatial awareness, and decision-making, preparing them for both competitive and cooperative gameplay.
Open Parachute will continue to be implemented K-6. Open Parachute aims to provide practical support on mental health to students. The program aims to reduce stigma and generate authentic dialogue in classrooms about the real issues students face. The psychological skills-building exercises aim to increase empathy, self-compassion, self-awareness, mental health literacy, and self-efficacy in students. Additionally, students will learn about road safety, covering essential topics such as safe practices when walking, riding as a passenger, and responsible use of roads.
Students will continue with the Amadeus Music Education Program and participate in activities in listening, performing and organising sound within their regular Classroom Music lessons.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they:
Arrive on time for each lesson
Bring their instrument and required accessories to every lesson
Bring their Essential Elements* music book
Bring a lead pencil and eraser
This Term our Visual Arts unit will be an integrated unit across a variety of Key Learning Areas. The students will have opportunities to recognise that making art involves consideration of subject matter and concept, techniques and issues to do with representation. They will complete artworks linked in with our Religion, English and History units.
In Music with Mr Parlato students will compose, perform, and create music using their voices, bodies, and various sound sources including digital composition tools. Students will explore music, composed and inspired by Beethoven and develop their understanding of pitch, dynamics, notation and form within music
It is recommended that Year 3 students spend up to 30 minutes on homework per day. This includes 20 minutes of reading every night. Students are required to record what was read in their School Diary each day. Parents are to sign their child’s diary. The homework grid will be shared with the students in Week 2. Both diaries and homework will be due each Monday. Please make sure your child has filled in their daily reading in their diary and you have signed it and their homework books are brought in to school every Monday.
This Term students will be bringing home targeted maths consolidation sheets as part of their homework. These tasks are carefully aligned with the concepts and skills introduced in class the previous week, such as number operations, measurement, geometry or data. The purpose of these sheets is to reinforce learning, build confidence and give students an opportunity to practise and apply their understanding in a supported way.
