Welcome Back to a Great Year of Learning!
Welcome back to a new school year at Camden High School! We are excited to see our students returning, ready to learn and grow. As we dive into the year ahead, we want to emphasize the importance of Mathematics—not just as a subject, but as a fundamental skill that connects to real-world situations, from managing finances to problem-solving in everyday life.
We understand that some families may feel that Mathematics isn’t always relevant, but we assure you that it plays a crucial role in countless careers and daily decision-making. Strong numeracy skills help students develop logical thinking, analytical abilities, and confidence in tackling challenges beyond the classroom.
Parental support is a key factor in student success. Encouraging good study habits, helping students stay organized, and showing a positive attitude towards Mathematics can make a significant difference. Together, we can ensure that all students build the skills they need to succeed now and in the future.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead—let’s make it count!
Welcome Mr Nguyen!
We are excited to welcome Mr Nguyen to the Camden High School Mathematics faculty! Mr Nguyen joins us from Hurlstone Agricultural High School and brings with him a passion for teaching and a highly motivated, enthusiastic approach to the classroom. His students are already enjoying his engaging lessons, and we are thrilled to have him as part of our team.
We look forward to working with Mr Nguyen and hope he will be a valued member of our school community for many years to come. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome to Camden High School!
Expectations and Importance of Homework
At Camden High School, completing homework is a key expectation across all year groups, particularly for our senior students in Years 10, 11, and 12. The Mathematics faculty, in line with school-wide expectations, ensures that students receive regular homework at their classroom teacher’s discretion. Homework is checked and monitored consistently, contributing to students' half-yearly and yearly reports.
Homework is more than just an assignment—it’s a key part of learning and success! Completing homework helps students reinforce what they’ve learned in class, develop responsibility, and improve time management skills. It also gives teachers insight into a student’s progress and understanding of the material. Importantly, regular completion of homework helps prepare students for future assessment tasks by strengthening their problem-solving abilities and deepening their understanding of key concepts.
While students will not receive reflections for incomplete homework, we strongly encourage them to seek support if needed. Parents and guardians will be informed by classroom teachers if there are any concerns regarding homework completion. We appreciate the support of families in reinforcing the importance of homework, as it provides an opportunity for parents to engage with their child’s learning. Research shows that when carers take an active interest in their child’s homework, it fosters better study habits, builds resilience, improves academic performance, and strengthens communication between school and home.
To help students succeed, it is essential that they have the correct equipment both in class and when completing their homework, especially in Mathematics. This includes pens, rulers, workbook, and importantly a scientific calculator. Having the right tools ensures students can practice efficiently and develop problem-solving skills that are critical for their learning and assessments.
Here are some tips for creating a productive homework environment:
✅ Set a Routine – Encourage a consistent homework schedule to build structure and reduce last-minute stress.
✅ Create a Distraction-Free Space – Find a quiet, well-lit area with minimal distractions to improve focus.
✅ Have the Right Supplies Ready – Ensure students have all necessary materials, including their calculator, before they begin.
✅ Encourage Breaks – Short breaks between study sessions can help maintain concentration and prevent burnout.
✅ Offer Support, Not Answers – Parents can help by discussing assignments and guiding problem-solving, rather than providing answers.
✅ Supervise and Check In – Regularly monitoring your child’s homework progress helps them stay on track and focused. A simple check-in can reinforce accountability and encourage good study habits.
✅ Praise Effort and Progress – Positive reinforcement boosts motivation and confidence.
By staying on top of homework, students reinforce classroom learning, build essential study skills, and prepare for future academic challenges. Let’s work together to support our students in making the most of this valuable learning opportunity!
💡 Tip: Checking in with your child about their homework is a great way to stay connected to their learning journey!
Having the Correct Equipment
With the new school year underway, we want to remind families of the importance of being well-prepared for learning. While many students are extremely organized, some may need a reminder to ensure they have all the necessary supplies. It is essential that all students come to school equipped with a scientific calculator, pens, pencils, rulers, glue, workbooks, and other stationery items to support their studies.
A scientific calculator is a vital tool, particularly for Mathematics, and we strongly encourage all students to have their own. Scientific calculators are available for purchase from the school office, ensuring that every student has access to the correct model needed for their lessons and assessments.
To help students stay organized, we encourage families to establish a routine where students pack their bags the night before to ensure they have all their required materials for the next school day. While teachers will always do their best to support students, there is no guarantee that spare equipment, such as calculators, will be available in the classroom.
We also recommend that students carry a well-stocked pencil case with spare supplies, so they are always prepared for their lessons. Having the correct equipment allows students to engage fully in their learning without unnecessary disruptions.
We ask for the support of all families—across all year groups, including seniors—in helping their child stay organized and develop good habits for success. Ensuring that students have their equipment ready each day fosters responsibility, independence, and a positive approach to learning.
💡 Tip:Scientific calculators are available for purchase from the school office. Encourage your child to have their own to ensure they are prepared for every Mathematics lesson!
If there are any extenuating circumstances or difficulties in obtaining the necessary supplies, please contact your child’s Year Advisor for support and assistance.
Upcoming Assessment Tasks – Be Prepared!
As we move through the term, it’s important for students to stay on top of their upcoming Mathematics formal assessments. Checking the assessment schedule regularly and planning will help reduce last-minute stress and allow for effective revision.
✅ Revision materials will be provided in class, and additional resources are available on CANVAS to support student learning.
✅ If students are absent from class—especially during revision lessons—it is their responsibility to catch up on missed content outside of class time.
✅ Staying organized and preparing early will help students approach their assessments with confidence!
