Support Faculty Snapshot

English

Stage 4 English students are exploring literary techniques and elements of a narrative and starting to relate it to their class novel, either Wylah the Koorie Warrior or Coraline. They will identify techniques such as, similes, metaphors, character development, point of view, plot, themes etc and analyse how meaning is created. They will prepare a text that summarises their understanding of the literary techniques used by the author to create meaning.

Stage 5 English are exploring the concept of ‘Conflict’ in various texts which includes Remember the Titans. They are investigating if there is evidence of ‘growth’ in characters in texts with conflict and thinking critically about the outcomes. They will reflect and evaluate if there are often positive results. Many texts show that challenges, social and cultural clashes can divide people and groups but then can be resolved through communication, empathy and connection. Ultimately, they will prepare a presentation style persuasive text using a learning and responding matrix to support learning, critical thinking and their writing.
