Old Treasury Building – History Excursion
On the 7th of February, the year 12 history class went on an excursion to the Old Treasury Building near Southern Cross, 20 Spring Street, Melbourne. Once students entered the Old Treasury Building, they were shown various rooms with exhibits in relation to World War 1 and World War 2, which included the topics of protest, conscription, and several types of propaganda that were used during that period. The guide who showed students around the treasury building was very helpful in his knowledge of both world wars and shared his experience of working as a year 12 examiner, providing students with helpful advice and tips for schoolwork and future exams. Students also explored various rooms within the treasury building, including some rooms that are typically off limits for public viewing. Students were shown the executive council room, where the Governor and Premier go weekly to discuss the topic of legislation. They were also shown the older version of this office where these meetings were held before it was changed to the current one, with the guide providing students with background knowledge of both executive council rooms. Overall, the excursion helped to provide a better understanding of the Year 12 history course and students enjoyed their time exploring there.
