Support Unit

Four students (Alex, Bryce, Viriya and Omer) from the Support Unit recently attended the Greater Macarthur Secondary Education Network (GMSEN) excursion to Mount Annan Botanic Gardens on the 14th of March. They explored scenic walking trails and participated in creative activities surrounded by nature. Students were able to join several social activities with other Support Unit students from other local high schools. The day was filled with fresh air, teamwork, and new friendships as they discovered the beauty of nature while building confidence and social connections.

Talofa lava ma afio mai - Hello and welcome to Macarthur class, fellow Support Unit students, and their families for 2025!

Macarthur class is supported by Mrs Rennex (Teacher) and Mrs Kinnear (SLSO). We have four new Year 7 students, and three students ranging from Year 8 to Year 10 within our class make up. Thus far, students have participated in the Swimming Carnival at Camden Pools, excursions (e.g. GMSEN - Mount Annan Botanical Gardens) and extracurricular activities (e.g. School Musical, Agriculture). In doing so, students are broadening their social networks and developing key skills in and out of the classroom. Within Macarthur class, we have been learning a range of different topics this term, including but not limited to, “What happened to the dinosaurs?”, Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - Samoan, Music, Visual Arts, and Cricket within Support Unit Sport. Students have also begun to engage in “Macarthur’s Mindful Moments” which fosters being present and engaging in a task of their choosing throughout small periods during the class day. Our favourites so far include puzzles, magnetic tiles, Lego, and using our “Check-in and Chill Out” area.

We look forward to seeing what this year will bring for all of our students within Macarthur and the Support Unit here at Elderslie High School!
