Sports Academy

The 2025 Heathmont College Sports Academy has had a great start to the new year. Our athlete intake has exceeded more than 75 students in the program, which marks the largest sports academy class to date.
This year we are covering 9 sports including: AFL/W, BASKETBALL, ATHLETICS, SOCCER, BASEBALL, NETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, GYMNASTICS, and MOUNTAIN BIKING.
It is with great pleasure to recognise Liam Steinlauf (Mountain Bike) who competed in the Downhill Mountain Bike National Championships held in Mt Buller. Liam raced in the U15’s as a bottom age rider and finished 8th in the event out of 50 riders.
Liam raced in the final round of the Victorian Downhill State series which consisted of 6 races from October 24th to March 25th. Liam had some great results for the season recording two 1st place finishes and one 3rd place finish.
This outstanding form saw Liam being rewarded as the overall winner, and the U15’s Victorian DH MTB State Champion! This is an outstanding result for a bottom aged rider! Congratulations Liam!
Our Sports Academy Basketball program competed in the Victorian All Schools 3 on 3 Tournament in both the Intermediate and Senior student’s event.
Our Intermediate boys had a great showing and finished in the top 7 schools in the regional event held at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. They played very well and was able to beat some of the powerhouse schools such as Box Hill and Templestowe. This 7th place finish qualifies the boys to take part in the State Championships later this year.
Our Senior boys’ team which was made up of 1 senior and 3 intermediate boys did a great job on senior day. The boys competed extremely well and won every game on the day going 8-0 and qualifying for the State Championships to be held later this year.
These are some great results thus far from our Sports Academy athletes, and there’s still more to come!
