No Touch Policy

We want to ensure that Heathmont College is a safe and respectful learning environment for all our school community.

We are aware that not everyone is comfortable with being hugged or being touched. We also know that students are not always willingly participants in, or comfortable with, "rough play", but may not be feel comfortable expressing this. In addition, occasionally "rough play" can escalate into actual frustration/aggression which can then lead to violence.

Therefore starting next term, we will be implementing a "No Touch" policy for our students. This policy will apply to students whilst at school and during any school activities, including camps and excursions.

Students are not to have physical contact with any other students. Students also need to keep a respectful distance between each other. Exceptions to this rule include acceptable handshakes, other cultural greetings and where required as part of the school curriculum program (for example, playing sport in a supervised Physical Education class).

This policy aims to protect students from any perceived or actual inappropriate conduct. Heathmont College staff will use their professional judgment when enforcing the policy.
