Trinity College Cross Country Championships
Tuesday, 1 April
Forming part of ‘Challenge Tuesday’ during our inaugural Health & Physical Education week, Trinity’s students were put to the ultimate endurance test over the pacy 3km course. Into its 3rd year, it was fantastic to have included our first full-year group event, with all Year 7’s competing on the course and doing their best in the hot conditions.
Open to all other 8-12 students by nomination, the event’s aim is to serve as an opportunity for students to further demonstrate the “Spirit of Excellence” and strive to be a part of the College’s team at the SSWA Interschool event next Term.
The positive attitude and enthusiasm displayed by the students on the day was undoubtedly in respect of the great effort put in by many staff in preparation, as without the support of College teaching, grounds and administration staff, such an event could not run so smoothly.
The top placing students for each year group were as follows:
YEAR 7 | YEAR 8 | YEAR 9 | YEAR 10 | YEAR 11 | YEAR 12 | |
Champion | Mitch Borman | Archer McCrae | Nate Cass | Henry Pearson | Daniel Russo | David McAlinden |
Runner-up | Ty Fernandes | Jonty Booth | Fabian Latouche | Trent D’Alessio | Lachlan Mammana | Leo Musca |
3RD place | Jayden Adair | Adriaan Steyn | Tace Rankin | Joseph DiCiano | Thibault Martin | Matthew Collins |
Congratulations to these highly deserving students who will receive their medals at the assembly next week and well done to all runners involved for demonstrating great sportsmanship regardless of where they finished.
Many personal bests were achieved through grit and determination and special mention is deserved for our back-to-back School Champion Daniel Russo (11.4) who is again the deserving recipient of the Perpetual Trophy as the fastest runner across the course on the day (9.35 minutes) – Brilliant effort, Daniel, and good luck in attempting to take out the hat-trick next year!
Health & Physical Education Week
Bulletproof Wednesday
On Wednesday, our focus in HPE week turned to maximising student participation in sport through an improved understanding of sports injury prevention methods as well as having greater knowledge of recovery techniques, aimed at enhancing training and performance.
In the morning Senior students, followed by Year 7’s, attended a presentation and practical session lead by Trinity Old Boy Andrew Bottega ('14) who is Director at Stirling Physio and a Sports Physiotherapist for the WA State 18’s Football team as well as Subiaco in the WAFL. Andrew elaborated with the students on how to make themselves more ‘bulletproof’ to injury through methods such as adequate rest, nutrition, and recovery. The session finished with students completing some practical activities/movement aimed at strengthening their legs and joints to reduce the incidence of injury in the future.
During recess and lunchtime, students were able to experience recovery techniques as Ice Baths were available to use during recess and lunchtime. Proven to advance recovery via stimulating blood flow to remove waste products, many students bravely crouched in the freezing water, boosting their ability to overcome soreness and fatigue!
Also, at lunchtime in Carrigg Court, the Year 10 Sports Science students presented ways to treat and prevent sport injuries to the Year 7s. Using practical, hands-on methods with examples such as ice packs, sports tape, and protective equipment, it was brilliant seeing our Year 10 students share their knowledge to their younger peers, all in the name of enhancing their participation in physical activity at the College and into the future. TC Spirit at its finest.
‘The Crown’ – Round 1
Commencing during HPE Week 2025 was the newly created yearlong event where Year 12 students and staff will match up across 5 different sports in a best of 5 game series. The winner across all sports fixtures will be awarded the coveted Crown trophy and the series kicked off on Tuesday with Pickleball in the Sports Centre.
Despite the boisterous student support and their rousing entrance to the music of Wolfmother, the staff came out victorious over the Year 12’s by a narrow margin after some extremely close singles and doubles matches played in awesome spirit. Well played to our gutsy Year 12’s and they will no doubt be seeking to square the ledger when the series resumes early next Term.

Hamer Cup Champions 5 Years Running
A brave season by our boys and coaches. Thank you to the College and the parents for providing this opportunity, a dress rehearsal for taking on life and getting the rewards you don’t achieve easily. We were fortunate to have a reserves race which is very respectful of all athletes and lets those that don’t make a crew have a fitting finish to the season. Our reserves would have made the Top 4 crews at every other school.
Our Year 9's and 10's have been two exceptional groups and raced extremely well, they can be very proud of their work, their calmness and fierce attitude, they epitomise “humble ferocity”. To see a wave of boys in blue shirts run the last 500m, we can see the future as our Year 8's turned up to support their older teammates.
The fight of the 4th VIII, 3rd VIII, 2nd VIII, and 1st VIII was exceptional, (with their Year 8 coaches calling for more) when a young person isn’t winning the race, it's easy to ejector seat out of the heat and just finish the race on the fade. They all raced with their hand in the fire and beat crews some with significantly stronger ergos. We had great leadership from an exceptional group of coxswains that keep the attack going.
All of the crews raced with bravery, resulting in the Hamer Cup for the 5th year in a row. 17 of the last 22 with no award for 2020.
From a distance it looks a bit of a big load for a student and families. It is however a very beautiful and thrilling thing to do, a combination of surfing and running - the faster the strides the greater speed over the water. As the sun is coming up, it feels like flying.
I would put forward that here we are in Week 10 and the season is over and the boys will shine for the rest of the year from the challenge they accepted. Regardless of the result, accepting the challenge and saying “bring it on” is a win and a template to call on for the future.
We congratulate all of the other summer sports. I would ask all of our boys to thank their parents for their support making this possible. Thank you to Evy Keskinedes and Jeremy Nicoletto for leading the amazing group of parents I would like to thank Liam, Mark, Rohan, Lachlan all of our coaches, TOBA and my family for their support and patience.
